Converted to EFI several years ago, and installed the pump on a bracket hanging just below the fuel tank.

Now installing a 3-link rear into the car ('68 Mustang), I had to change the fuel pump mount, and simply bolted it to the floor pan ahead of the tank, and probably about 2" higher than the top of the tank. About 8" of hose from the tank to the pump.

Then I remembered that the installation instructions with the pump, way back then, was that it was non self priming and had to be at or below the fuel level in the tank.

Damn.

But just for curiosity, I turned the key and the system pressurized immediately (I would have lost prime when re-routing the fuel pump)

The new location is ideal. But am I going to be stranded some day if the pump doesn't prime?

Can a non-self-priming electric pump actually suck fuel a few inches uphill when the line is empty?

Thanks
Phil
