View Full Version : Jello pudding in my oil pan?

I flipped my 305 (SBC) over on the stand today and pulled the oil pan to make sure there wasn't any shrapnel in it, and to get it ready for a new pump and gasket. This is what was in there. Nice little puddle of it in the pan too (maybe a half cup). I haven't used this motor yet (long story some of you should remember) but it ran beautifully in the guy's truck before I pulled it.

Just a case of bad oil turning into sludge, or is something else going on here.

looks like oil mixing with water...not too bad though.

That would make perfect sense because water getting in the motor is what caused the problems.

Other than some of the valves being frozen open (rust from the water) the motor looks amazingly clean and nice inside. Nice cylinder walls, no visible wear or damage anywhere, no oil crud caked up anywhere, no rust and crust in the water passages. When I saw this oil I was glad it never fired.

Thanks

Yeah, that's the oil/water mixture there. It gets worse as the stuff sits. It winds up kinda like spoiled milk. That's some great work there Todd...
