I saw some google articles that people use aluminum washers under the 3rd member studs. Is this really the think to do? I was provided grade 8 AN washers and I used ARP washers. Do I need to swap them out?

I had better luck with copper washers, the aluminum are too soft and squeeze out when torquing the nut to spec.

I have had the copper washers squeeze in and lock up on the threads making removal of the 3rd member difficult.

Now I just use the AN washers with some RTV on the threads and that seems to be the best so far. If yours is not leaking around the stud, leave it alone.

So the washers would go on the studs before you pull them through the housing? Is leaking from the studs a problem?

Nope. Washers on the studs after installing the center section, just under the nut.

RTV the studs into the housing when installing them.

I wish I knew about this before I filled mine with fluid. I have this same issue and wound up cleaning the studs one by one with carb cleaner then using RTV black before reinstalling the nut on the stud. Sealed for about a week and is now seeping again.

I bought copper and aluminum washers but may just duct tape a maxi-pad to the underside of the housing and change when necessary.
