Ok I have been wanting to make this for quite a while now. I know Larry, elcamino80, 34X2Camaro, and several other members from this site have played GT3 and are anxious for GT4. The GT series is more than a game it is a simulator game. It teaches you how to enter corners, exit corners, braking, slaloms, acceleration with as little wheel spin as possible, and the most important- It really improves your overall driving skills on a real life race track!!! Larry also stated that he is pretty sure that Tony Huntimer's car was used for the exhaust sounds in this game!!
Here is a sound clip from GT4 Prologue. Prologue is basically the demo of GT4 but not too many people actuallly have it. If you guys want I can post various cars or tracks but this is a temporary host till I find a good one.

I really hope they have more cars this time. I was really impressed with the graphics on GT3 but GT2 just was so much better. So many more cars and what the hell why did they get rid of the used car section! I just cant wait....

Tim, why do you think gt2 was better then gt3? Not bashing your opinion but I am just curious. Anyone have any idea why the GT series hasnt included the 24 hours of le mans as an endurance race or as a track to compete on? licensing possibly?

yody
09-23-2004, 09:10 PM
common dude, did you really have to post that whole list? sorry guys i would rather be driving for real than on the T.V. also i suppose that game could teach you how to drive but will you really be able to drive better? Have fun gamers, sounds pretty cool!

I also have the GT4 Prologue game and the graphics and car handling are really good.
But I hope they improve the opponents once and for all because if you are in their racing line you will get hit... Not good

And yody, I guess people could improve on the real race track if they really considered what they have learned about eg the racing line

Then there are probably people that would learn squat because they are born racers with all this in their backbones.

But for sure, I would want to drive the C5R for real rather than in the game

I also wonder why you would like GT2 better? How many hours did you put into gt3??
The only thing that made GT2 better was because it had a few muscle cars. Otherwise the graphics, game play, sounds are wayy better in GT3. Heck GT2 was for PS1 and GT3 is PS2. Really no comparison. I bet if you gave GT3 a chance you would love it unless you cant pass the license tests. :lmao:

By yody:common dude, did you really have to post that whole list?
Your kidding right? Would you have prefered I posted 3 cars? This is a GT4 thread of course I posted all the cars. Next I will post all the tracks you might not to look when I do that.

By elcamino80: I also have the GT4 Prologue game and the graphics and car handling are really good.
Which GT4 Prologue version do you have? The Jap version or the Pal. I have them both and the Pal version is a lot better. Do you have a mod PS2 or do you use the swap disks?
I use the swap disks. Only $18 and I can play burnt PS2 games and import games. :)

Well GT2 has a wider veritiy of cars, I have played GT-2 quite a bit but GT-3 not too much, getting away from games some, don't know why. I also like the way in GT-2 you can compete in a race and win the cars over and over to increase your $$$ to buy more performance. ( win 4-5 of the 80s cup race and sell the skyline for 500K? + 2000 for winning) I do how ever like the graphics on 3.

You can also do that in GT3. You win cars each time then sell them. You can also do a "trade" and buy your own cars off your memory car. Then sell them for instant cash. Many people dont know that. :ssst:

09-24-2004, 07:23 AM
I have the Pal version.

I didn't want the hassle with swap discs so I installed a chip called Infinity. It took me about 2 evenings.

It boots automatically into the right mode (DVD, PSX, PS2) and have worked very well. It was 65€ (~75$) and well worth it...

Next project is to install a HDD. That should improve the times it takes to load the games.

theres an awsome car list, including muscle cars like GTOs and camaros. check the car list out here (http://xbox.ign.com/objects/682/682857.html)

Tony,
Yup Forza Forza Motorsport for the x-box is on my list of games that I will be buying when it comes out next year. Also Enthusia Professional Racing for the PS2 next year. The first of these is GT4 so I will try to keep this thread GT4 related for now.

If any of you guys are interested, I found the music from the two prologue trailors as well as other songs in the game itself. They are in m4a format though. This format I know can be played by the recent version of winamp and also in itunes. The guy posted mp3 links as well but they havnt worked yet.

The launch date for Europe has been postponed to the first quarter of 2005... :banghead: DAMN!!!!!

The only reason I found why is really lame... They are incorporating 13 languages into the game and that takes considerably more time than for the US and Japanese versions... :hand:

I mean come on, I wouldnt choose Finnish or Swedish even though it would be available so why bother?

It looks like a '68. Sting Ray name was dropped in '68, and re-appeared in '69 as Stingray (single word). '68 lacks the Stingray script above the side gills on front fenders as seen in that computer model. '70-'72 have different side gills, and front turn signals are rectangular shaped as opposed to round style on '68 & '69.

I was once a Corvette fanatic (I still like '63 Split Window and the '67 with Stinger hood).

Any details on mods you can make to the cars? Like can you pick tire/rim size, for example? My video game days were over about the time GT2 came out, so I don't really know how advanced GT's have gotten. I might buy this one.

Adam, the pictures you have of the writing on the track look like the Nurburgring. You would be amazed to see how much junk is actually written on that track. At some points it actually looks like they had a preschool class come out and decorate the track. I can't wait for this game to come out. I just hope they still have the Mazda B2 or whatever it's called on this game. I dominate with that car in GT3.

When I had a life outside of school and two jobs I used to play GT1 and GT2 as often as possible and got to the point that with my full race prepped Mitsu VR4 the computer wasn't in site when crossing the finish line on any of the tracks. One day a road race was on TV and as usual I had to watch, much to my wife displeasure, and what I came to realize was that as I watched things became "Familiar" to me. I thought perhaps the race was a rerun I'd seen previously. It turns out the race was at Laguna Seca and what was happing was that I knew what was around the next corner. I KNEW the track! This alone would give me an advantage against a competitior who had no experience on the same track, on the same day, in the same car, and with equal driving skills(which are basically none in my case). I knew the track so well in fact that I am sure that these types of simulators are used by the proffessionals before actuall seat time, if for no other reason than to become familiar with the track and its layout.

CAMAROBOY69
11-12-2004, 07:25 AM
I can verify 100% that the GT series definetly improved my driving skills on and off the track. After playing these games you will never take a corner or drive the same as you used to. If you think we are insane then I challenge you to try the "Training" courses in GT3 or GT4. Most anyone will learn something.
I also taped a race I saw on TV before as soon as I realized it was Laguna Seca. I was sooo excited since that was my favorite track!
Hopefully only 1 more month left and we will have the game. I am using 1 week of my vacation when it comes out. :) Since I have over 4 weeks it wont hurt at all.

Here is the confirmation that GT4 wont be in America until next year 2005.
In a statement released by Sony Computer Entertainment America this morning, the U.S delay of Gran Turismo 4 was officially authenticated.

camarorider

Half Life 2 is one of the sweetest games I have ever played. I liked doom 3 and the advancements they made with that game but the AI and engine in half life 2 is sick. The enemies are finally getting smart. And the scenes are so texture rich I spent a couple of minutes just walking around enjoying the surroundings.
If anyone likes a first person shooter get this game. Plus half life had more mods made for it then any other game I ever owned. I was still playing the first one up to a year ago, thats 5 years. Now that is a return on your money.

I have the Japenese "demo" of the game with the photomode and Nurburgring but I dont have the "Full" jap game yet. The good news is now that it has been release in Japan, it should come to us in full English version within a few months.
Another highlight: The entire Nurburgring track is in the game!!!!!

All those would keep you busy long enough until the game comes out next year. If anyone else is interrested let me know. Make sure to put GT4 in the title. PM me or if you dont get a reply just e-mail me at work or home. :drive:
I could also have the actual GT4 game from Japan depending on a couple connections I have. But I will have to wait about another week or 2 for that. :naughty:
I also added the list of confirmed tracks in the first thread. :icon996:

Or buy a sharkport and backup all your "game saves" to your computer. You could also buy a hard drive for the PS2 aka HDD.

That's what I was gonna say. I had a memory card erased on accident by a friend. I just played everything all over again. It was more fun the second time around, actually. Hell, I even did one of the enduro's again. that was at least 4 hours right there....

Got mine last night, played for a couple of hours. It's really cool, but difficult to get the hang of. The car behavior is definitely realistic! the graphics and sound are unprecented. I had my stereo cranked up in surround mode, and felt like I was at the track :)
First thing I did was an 'arcade mode' race driving the '70 Chevelle SS LS6... it behaved exactly like a stock chevelle would on a road course, horribly :D

Picked up a copy from game stop yesterday...DAMN :headbang:
the amount of cars is just awesome, not to mention how realistic it looks. not to be a complaining biatch, but I do have afew gripes about the game. I am suprised that there are a few cars missing. The caddy CTS, VW Corrado, GMC Sy/Ty, more mustangs, Lamborgini and Ferrari, and the Shelby GT500, and the Dodge Ram SRT10, Monte Carlo, 442, or a GSx, to name a few. I mean they have landrover, a friggin 1915 ford, an 1886 Daimler, the friggin NIKE shoe car :Alchy: and yet none of the afore mentioned cars? oh well...the GNX is badass though. and there are the other 700 something cars to pick from so I guess its ok...for now.
needs more American input...too many crappy japanese cars that im not going to play with, and yet no 54 Studebaker...weak. It would have been nice to see Big Red or the Sonoco Camaro, or some of the other Trans Am legends of the 60's and 70's

One thing I do not like so far is the lack of American Cars from the Used Car Dealerships. They are all Japanese!!! In Gran Turismo mode, they only give you enough credits (10,000) to buy a used car. If I had 10,000 to spend on a used car, I would use it on a mid 90's F-body.

I love this new game.

I love that I could transfer 100,000 credits from GT3 as well as my old A/B liscences. I picked up a brand new red Z06, and threw some BBS RKII rims on it (Think of the Thrasher Camaro). I am rocking peoples world right now.

My favorite features of the new game is the roof cam, the wind noise that comes on strong above 100mph and the Nurburgring course. That track is insane!!

I was curious about something though, when you go to tune the car there are several options this time. You can tune at the dealership and at various aftermarket companies. Does anyone one know if there is a performance difference in say going to NISMO over HKS? is it possible to do both? just wondering because all the shops are priced the same, and give the same performance increases...anyone...anyone...Bueller? anyone?

I recently picked up a copy... Havnt had much time to play. but I picked up a Silver ZO6 and mopped up on people left and right.

I like that they added the ease of changing settings on cars, how you can save 3 different setting variations and change rather than having to go through loading the file like GT3 was.

I got it from Best Buy and they had a steerring wheel setup on a high def TV. WOW!!! I really wish i had the money to get a high def now. And I really like the wheel setup, compared to the Dpad or analog because the D pad is too slow to react and the analog is a bit to sharp for my taste. Its easier to feel how much your giving on the input to the turn on the wheel.

Well Im off to play for a while. Savin up for my S7...

Right now my brother is doing an endurance race which lasts 24 hours in real time. I think he should be at hour 12. I think he wins 1.2 million when he finishes.

They have changed alot on this game from everything like the b-spec racing to the fact that you cant win the same cars off of the same races. Also be careful and dont sell every car you win. Some of them you can ONLY win and they dont come back twice. Which I like alot.

-Special Condition finished

I have been on vacation for about 2 weeks and I only got to play GT4 occasionally. The photo mode is absolutely sick. There are millions of pics on the internet of every car you can imagine. Some are so impressive that they look about as real as it gets. I started messing with it yesterday and I will get some pics posted mabey tonight.
To answer the question mentioned earlier, there are several different designs that people have made to hold the 900 degree steering wheel. Some people have built an entire cockpit including racing seats.
I will get on again late tonight when I get home and try to answer any more questions.
Gotta love the different FordGT's and GT40s in this game! SOme of the exhaust tones are sick at idle too. Sounds just like our cars. Some are great and some are not.

Nismo is the same as hks, is the same as blitz...no difference. I had a lot of blitz stuff on my old wrx so I just keep going with them.

Stuff I like:
Graphics, more realistic physics, classic american muscle, driving missions, that you can transfer gt3 data into it, photo mode.

What I don't like:
4 under 100hp hondas, and no fox body mustangs or 2nd/3rd gen f-bodys, etc. You can't make wheels bigger (taller/wider), no '68 camaro (minor gripe). The GNX isn't as capable as it should be.

There are some glaring omissions, the available 510 is a 4door of what I've seen, and that's garbage. No fox body stangs, No saleen stangs, no e30 or e46 m3's, no srt 10 truck....etc.

overall it's fun though. I'm at 50%.

Matt,
Wait a while and we will be able to put any wheel and any size wheel on any car. Also you will be able to swap any engine into any car. Same with chassis, suspension, just about anything.
This can all be done in GT3 if you know how to build hybrids and you have a Sharkport. :) I have put 20" wheels on any car I want and I can build just about anything in GT3 so give it time and we will be doing it in GT4. :icon996:
I have a video of a skyline with 20" wheels. I also have a video of a drifting F1 car I built with 20" wheels and you cant get that size wheel in GT3 at all without hybrids.

The '62 Buick Special is a real ass kicker once you get it tricked out (the Supercharger really helps). It needed race tires to get grip, but I've run it almost everywhere and had a ball with it. This car was almost Street Machine of the Year, but CHICAYNE nudged it out...Cam Evans influenced Sony's decision to include it while at SEMA. I dug the car from the moment I saw it and I had to jump into it as soon as I got GT4. I did the 100K money transfer and license transfer from the GT3 memory card to afford it right away. Its mighty cool...

I'm at 15% now. No wheel yet. No cool seat. Just a couch and a wireless controller (which rules versus a wired controller, by the way). I don't know if I'll upgrade to the seat and wheel though. I want to, but I'd prefer to do so in a den or basement rather than in my living room where I currently play. Once I get to a point where I feel I "need" the wheel/pedals to win races, I may reconsider, but I doubt it.

I have no in-laws coming over to judge my sanity. That helps.

I'm considering options (can my recliner be upfitted with the wheel/pedals?)....

I love the game, but I wish I could change driving views. I used to like watching the car rather than driving from inside the cockpit. I miss this option badly. I do love having the musclecars back in the game (I missed them in GT3 and loved them in GT2).

I like the graphics and the crowd in GT4. The tracks are great and the feel is good. I usually play only on weekends when I can invest a couple hours solid. I'm still digging other games too, but GT4 is consuming more of my gaming time lately...

Got the logitech pro wheel, it really takes some getting used to. Anyone else have this wheel ? Can i eliminate the feed back entirely? Maybe I will get used to it but it's annoying.

There are not any convertible 69 Camaros in GT4 so here is my first attempt at it.

My brother is 99.9% done. He is trying his best to beat the last driving challenge, mercedes challenge at nuremberg. Dang that one is really hard. He has been working on it for a couple days straight.

Did anyone ever find out how to turn the feedback on the logitech wheel all the way off?

I dont think you can turn it all the way off.

What do you mount your wheel when playing. I built a full on simulator. Its kinda nascar style with a door, racign seat, and window net. The best thing I did was mount the pedals at a angle its make it like a real car. This make the game alot more fun but makes me the biggest geek ever.

Ok then. We can be geeks together. There is a couple of couple of issues when building this. But for my first time ever planing something out and building it on my own I think is awsome. Oh and the color is petty blue, it was on richard petty's race car and petty is my last name so there you go.

Lets here everybodys comments.

That is soo sweet! Looks just like what I've wanted to build but don't have the room for.

O.K. I am a ****. Took apart my wheel to disable the feedback and now it does not work. When I was pluging and unplugging conecters to see what did what, a female receptacle detached from the circuit board. Doh!

I ordered a cheap seat from summit and I will build my cockpit this weekend. Geeeeeeeeeek!

I have thought about building the cockpit for GT many times. I guess I am a GEEK too. Only diff. is you are doing it! Can I come over and play when you have it done?

I have the plastic one from summit, you should add some extra padding for some more comfort.

When I make version two it will be just a base and be somewhat easy to take apart. Try to move mine and your going to get hurt.

Also do some research there are some of different forum's that could help.

I was going to start with a base but make it wide enought to add sides to if needed.

If I make it like yours they could always bury me in it someday! Just joking.

Not to be morbid, but someone probably sells nascar caskets

I am truly impressed by your simulator!

I have been on this forum for a while now and I never knew this thread existed.

I am a HUGE fan of the GT series, my wife hates it! LOL

hahahah I am a member on that site. I visit that site as much as the protouring site. Look up most of my picture threads for muscle cars, photoshop threads and much more. I am always on there. Same user name. :)
Lots of annoying kids over there but you gotta expect that from a game site. I even have my Camaro videos in there too. In a thread called "I raced GT4 style in my 69 Camaro" :)
