When I put my FiTech EFI on I changed my fuel tank out for the “in tank” fuel pump. I think it’s a Walbro 255. Has anyone else used this pump? If so, is yours loud? Mine is pretty loud going down the road even with the insulation and interior installed.

I put a FiTech kit on my Dad's 79 Z28. We used the pump that came with the kit originally-mounted on the frame rail and it was LOUD. We swapped his tank out for a Tank's Inc setup with internal 255lph pump and it runs perfectly quiet and smooth. Not sure what brand pump it's using but it does a great job.

We did the Tanks Inc. tank and pump setup with our FiTech install. You can hear it with the engine off, but I would not say it was loud. It is way quieter than the Holley Red pump we had with the carb.

Sounds like it’s touching the side of the tank or something. It shouldn’t be “loud” at all. Audible, but not loud.

Maybe I’m off a little, not obnoxiously loud but definitely loud enough to hear while driving

I used the same setup along with their sending unit.

You can hear mine for the 5 second purge time if you just turn the key on and don’t start.
If you start the engine you don’t hear it at all. Lol.

Either you have a very quiet engine, no gear whine and quiet exhaust or something is not right. You should not be able to hear the fuel pump over those things.

Holley Red is loud !!! Mine is in the trunk. You can hear it over the exhaust for sure. And my engine is far from quiet. 520hp 406.

I can pull up to a small crowd of people (wife and I was invited to a dinner with a Corvette club last Saturday night) and had someone ask what the whining noise was. Like I said, it's not deafening, but I still hear it. Maybe it's suppose to be that way. My exhaust isn't really loud but you can hear it. Not so bad with stereo cranked up.
Maybe I should try to post a small video and see what people think..

Holy cow Andrew... That's it exactly! same pump as I have and now everyone knows how loud it is.. Again not deafening, but certainly annoying. Looks like I'll be swapping my pump out as well. Thank You!

Looks like I’ll be buying a new pump before I do my Terminator install.

Andrew, I was looking on Amazon and looked at the 9-201-1000 deatschWerks pump. Is this the one you have? I think I'm going to order it tonight. The reason I'm asking is there are several different numbers of this pump (which I'm sure is for different factory cars), just wanted to get kind of a universal one. Mine is going in a stock '68 Camaro tank. (Tanks Inc) with the hole for the in tank pump and another for the sending unit.
Again, thanks for the installation video!

Carl,

I'm not home, but if you can wait, when I go home I can look up my Amazon purchase history. It might be in my Cougar build thread.

That’s fine, I found one, just don’t want to get one that’s too long for my tank.
Take your time, I’m in no hurry.

Well, got my new fuel pump in a couple of days ago. Spent yesterday afternoon changing out new wiring for the plug etc. (A big thanks to Andrewb for the video).
In the process of getting ready to put it back in the car the retainer clip used to hold the prefilter on came off and is nowhere to be found.... Not knowing what size, name of clip, or where to get one I called DeatschWerks to see if they could sell me another one.
I was told they come in kits with the screen for around $2. Shipping is going to be flat rate of $10. How’s that for luck. Oh well, supposedly going to be here Friday.

The clip was in a little bag by itself. Glad you're getting close!

Yeah Andrew, I actually had the clip on the strainer, attached to the pump. I don’t know if I warped the clip putting it on or what. I picked up the pump off of the bench and the strainer came off along with the clip..
That’s when I lost the clip.

Me either, but new one is suppose to be here tomorrow.. Hopefully I wont lose this one.

Ok, I ordered the new pre strainer because I lost the small retainer clip and it does not sell by itself.
After three days I call and ask if they know when it might be here, I was told that it hadn’t shipped yet because the guy that took the order forgot to ask for the security code on my card, and she didn’t know why no one called me back. After another couple of days it arrived.
Everything’s looking good and ready to go back together... well almost. Seems the cork and rubber gasket originally used shrank and was no longer usable. Luckily a local NAPA parts store had the gasket material in stock. We’re back together now and just tested for leaks. No leaks, but I’m telling you, you have to try hard, with your head in the trunk to hear this thing!
I am 100% satisfied with this pump. I feel like the noise the Walbro used wouldn’t have bothered some, but it did me.
I’d like to thank Andrewb for his help and installation video. Followed it to a “t”.
