I’m still relatively new to the autoX game, been racing now for a couple years, and I’ve gotten to the point where I am driving past my stock brake capability. Fronts are stock, with the exception of Howe single piston calipers. Rears are 11” disc with stock metric calipers. My questions is what’s out there for upgrades that I can put together myself? I don’t really have the funds to buy a nice Wilwood kit.

I like the C5 brake stuff because it's cheap to upgrade or replace. Call Tobin at KORE3. He better than good.

Thanks for the lead!

What have you done for pads on your current setup?

With autocross, you shouldn’t have too much heat compared to what you’d get on a road course.

Honestly nothing fancy. I was going to try performance friction 01 compounds.

KK thats an awesome way to do an A body! I had to go find your build thread after I saw your avatar - car looks mean af. For better AutoX brakes, heat dissipation isn't a big objective, so cooling and large rotors aren't needed. I would focus on line pressure and pad friction. If you don't mind some extra pedal travel, you can go from your 1 1/8'' bore master, down to a 1'' and gain higher line pressure(better clamping force). I say this because just switching to a modern OE setup might not yield the increased stopping power you are looking for.

For pads, linearity is the goal, because you want the pad friction to be the same from the first time you hit the brakes when cold, to the last turn. No friction on turn one and lots on the last is pretty hard to drive-but with your racing experience you probly have experienced this much more than me. I run wilwood bp-20 pads on the road course, and I prefer them much better than the EBC "red stuff" I had before. Some of my friends that autoX like Hawk pads(I don't because they don't publish any info), and also the wilwoood "E" pads, but I've never used them.

btw, I agree with 79 Camaro, tobin is the man.

Thanks! I really like the new paint job my dad did on it! I also forgot to mention I do run wilwood dual master cylinders. 1” in the front and 7/8” in the rear. But I like the idea of using a better pad! I’ll try that out for the event this weekend at Road America and let you know how it goes! Thank you for the advice!

Oh sorry, I thought you were strictly autox for some reason. I've never been on the track, but my buddy raced ducati's at RA and the braking into turn one will light up the night! I'd love to see some video if you take some, it looks like such a fun track. I was going to say swing down to BHF raceway on sept 18th but realized is't like 2.5 hours south of Road America.

Let me know what pad you use and how you like it. I think my BP-20's will be done after this next round at blackhawk farms in a few weeks and might consider something different. I still haven't routed my air ducting to the front rotors yet, but I definitely need to as near the end of the 20 minute sessions I need to start braking more and more early.

And yeah, your dad did a great job, that paint is killer.

My fault I should’ve been more specific. I pretty much just race autoX, the RA event is on the motorplex kart track. I think I’m gonna run PF 01 and see how they do. That’s a lot of iron to get slowed down! I’ll take some videos and load them up if I can figure out how!
