Hello, all. I need to get a steering wheel into my '73 Camaro as it comes out of the body shop so I can, well, steer. I don't have the steering linkage or column sorted out soon, but I have another post on here asking about those specifics. Here I'm just trying to figure out the steering wheel.

I don't know where to start with this. I don't know who the major players are with these particular parts or their reputation with those parts. I don't know what factors should be taken into account beyond comfort. What are some of the products and companies I should be looking at? I would love to hear both higher end as well as economical options so I can research into them.

Thanks! -Rich

If you want really really high end, the Sparc Industries Truss steering wheel is one of the nicest aftermarket steering wheels on the market.

I don't really know what I want right now. I'm just trying to understand some of the more popular products on the market. I know I don't want something too flashy. Flashy isn't my thing.

It is a pro-touring build. Track days on the weekend and daily drive during the week. So I'm looking for something that is kinda a balance of those two.

I just got my Truss steering wheel from Sparc Industries and I couldn't be happier. I plan to wrap it with leather to tone it down and you could anodize the center to blend it even more.

Things to think about.

Position relative to you. This is the most imporatant item for me. As a taller person (6'3") one of the best upgrades I ever made was combining a deep dish steering wheel with an extension. I got a lot more clearance for my legs and a more comfortable position for performance driving.

Material. Suede is awesome for grip and feel but harder to keep clean. If you daily drive this be prepared to clean it frequently or it will get dirty and look the part.

Diameter. For performance driving (more noticeable on autocross than track) I prefer a narrower wheel. 13.5"

For whatever its worth, I'm running a Driven deep dish steering wheel on my Camaro. They've come up in price but are still are quality wheel that won't break the bank.
