I am wanting to put 16's or 17's on my 1967 pontiac firebird. I would rather have the 16 for a little more side wall and filling out wheel wells. I would like to however put some meat to the ground in the back around a 275 or 285 if I could. I don't know however if anyone from tire companies makes a tire that size. I would like to know if anyone here knows what the largest size tire is on a 16 inch rim. And what the back spacing would need to be around to fit them into the wheel wells in the rear of my 67 bird. Thanks.

Oh man!.....do I feel your pain!!! The largest reasonably profiled 16" tire you can go with is a 265/45. That's it. If you want wider you (A) go to a 70 series sidewall or (B) move up to a 17" rim. Good luck!!!

16x9 1/2 wheel
255/50/16
continental & sumitomo only...
Accordind to tire rack & several tire manufacturers.
Go to 17's, trust me on this...manufacturers are discontinuing 16" tires daily.
The days ov a 285/275 50 are gone...
good luck

Kuhmo is all I know about. No one else will return my emails. The tire manufacturers are probably just laughing their @$$es off at me

I hope the link works.

I made some 16 vs 17 comments at the very end of the thread.

Rick,

It's not completely done yet, but it works.

Here's the next teaser.
