How many of you are getting track day insurance for road racing and optima street car events? I would say my car is around 100k in value and the idea of something happening while at optima has me thinking. Playing around with some quotes I could get insurance for $300 for $50,000 worth of coverage or should I go the full 100k? I wouldn’t think I would cause enough damage that 50k couldn’t fix it. I need to figure something out quick since I have a road course event in June and optima in july

any feedback or advice would be great.

This is becoming much more popular even though serious incidents are still very rare. Look at the deductible on the policy closely though. IIRC, they are 5-10% of the policy. The Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche GT3 track day heros seem to like this type insurance. A serious-off can be very expensive. The typical incident would barely break the deductible. I've never done it with my other cars, but have considered it for when I get the Corvette on track. $300 is pretty cheap peace of mind in such an expensive hobby.

Just don't drive with the "it's ok, it's insured" attitude and the likelihood of ever needing goes down dramatically. If you never need it and can always drive the car back home or on the trailer, that's a good thing....

It's been a couple of years since last time I looked but if I recall correctly I couldn't get track day coverage on any event that had timing and scoring such as Optima. Basically if you needed a transponder, no HPDE coverage.

You can select time trail insurance. The deductible is 10 or 15%. For $300 and $50000 coverage I think it’s well worth it. Let’s hope I don’t need it

Is this through Hagerty?

Is that for 1 day or a whole weekend?

Last time I bought HPDE insurance it was thru Lockton and I paid $125 for a 2 day event with $30,000 coverage and 10% deductible IIRC.
