I worked tech at an HPDE event this past weekend at Dominion Raceway and one of the entrants that came through was running a set of Hoosier R7 tires that he said he purchased used with approximately 80% tread remaining for $300 a pair. He gave me a web site and I visited it when I got home but I see no reference to any used racing tires. Just curious if anyone has heard of places selling slightly used racing tires and if so do you have contact info.

Yes. Never done it personally. But it’s common for pro teams to sell tires after X number of heat cycles. And they will still have good life left. Hoosiers won’t last long at a 20 min session HPDE event tho. And don’t drive on them to the event.

Idk.
Gently used racing tires sounds as safe as gently used condoms.

Tons of the hardcore HPDE guys do that. Used race tires from real race teams typically have one or two heat cycles on them. They are plenty good for track days.
Hoosier R7s and A7s are fine on the street, unless it rains, then not so much.

Oh no it’s completely fine. Racing tires don’t go bad from a few heat cycles and 25pct wear. They don’t even lose much. But they lose just enough grip that a pro team with tire sponsors doesn’t need them any more. Even tho they may only be off .5sec a lap

I wouldn’t run them on the street. Not much anyway. They are like fly strips. Pick up everything on the road and either throw it at the paint or embed in the tire.
Any nail within 500 feet of the car is going to get sucked up into that tire. Just sayin

Cute, but I was asking a serious question. Perhaps you don't understand the condition of some of these tires that professional race teams take off their cars after only one or two heat cycles. Some of these tires are barely scuffed in and are perfectly good for track days or autocross use for hundreds of dollars less than new. These tires are not intended as a replacement for a proper street tire.
BTW, I found the web site the guy told me about.

I've known a few guys to go this route. The quality seems to be hit and miss. If you regular buy tires then be prepared for an occasional bad tire or two to slip through. Some guys will try to keep matched sets of a car and sell those for a slight premium which I recommend. Sucks to get to your local HPDE or time trials event and have one tire cord after the first session. Or have them heat cycle out unevenly.
I plan on purchasing some of my own when I get my Mustang back in action.
