Autocross Oil Pan

Hi all, I have a 1970 Chevy Nova that has the Ridetech Tru Turn on a factory subframe. I'm rebuilding the small block chevy engine and am looking for an oil pan with increased oil capacity and internal baffles that will fit around the steering and isn't any deeper than 7.5 inches. The extra insurance of baffles and more oil like a road race/autocross style pan has that won't break the bank would be nice if I can find one. Anyone had any luck?

Thanks for the heads up on Speedway Motors, I forget to include them in my searches. The complete pan that looks like it might work is iffy due to my car being rear steer and the build your own will probably take too much time, I'm running at Goodguys in Del Mar in a couple of weeks and want to get the engine back in the car and drive it around first. I am sending one back today that looked like it might fit but wasn't close once it arrived. We found a Canton that's coming on Monday, that's all that's left to finish the motor. It is stock appearing with slosh and trap door baffles. The only downside is that it is stock oil capacity but for autocross should be fine.

Can't guarantee fitment with the tru-turn, but it is a quality unit, and does fit a Nova.

I would also like to know if the tru-turn draglink fits...

The issue with the claimer pan is that it is set up for left hand turns.

A road race pan is a bit different from a circle track pan.

Another idea may be to run an Accusump. Speedway Motors, Summit Racing and Jegs sell them. You could keep your stock pan and have oil in case you starve your pickup. No autocross corner is long enough to exceed the capacity of a one quart Accusump. Just a thought.

Bill, that's a nice looking pan but with the True Turn in the car taking up space it looks like its going to be a stock dimension pan for now to get the car ready for the next race. I live in San Diego and we don't have an offseason for autocross so anything I do needs to be done between events. We pulled the engine the day of the last event on March 3rd and the machine shop has it now. The plan is to reinstall it March 22 and 23 then drive the car for about 2 weeks. The next autocross here is Goodguys on April 5 and 6 then the SCCA on April 7. I've never run at Goodguys but the CAMT points battle in San Diego is tight and I don't want to miss an event.

The bearings looked fine when we pulled it apart so this pan should be a big upgrade over the stock oil pan. I am going to set up a Gopro camera on the oil gauge to see if the engine needs anything added or changed.

Randy, does that pan drop down below your crossmember? My pan is 7.5 inches and is just barely above the crossmember. We have a dip that sometimes comes into play here in San Diego SCCA and I can't hit it while on the brakes or I need to take it at an angle so I don't bottom out. I don't want it hanging too low anyway.

I run the same pan. 2 autocrosses, no problem. I bought it before I bought headers so I wasn't sure if the pan with kickouts would have cleared. I don't plan on road racing so I figured it would be ok. So far so good

That looks like a very nice pan. The baffles should help with starvation. It looks like a safe bet.

It is right at it.
I have never hit the pan though....It would have to grind thru an inch of header pipes before it got to the crossmember...lol

My experience on my Pontiac motors is that the Canton road race pan has better baffles than the Milodon.

For three years the Camaro had a 406SBC with a CV Products Road Race oil pan. The pan was quite well designed and served for many track days with no issues. The Milodon stock-type pan that was on the car starved the pump and caused main bearing failure after a day at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.

It was a bit of a challenge to make a dipstick since there was no stock-type tube provision/relief in the rail.

Update: I installed the Canton oil pan I listed above and it cleared the Tru Turn. I have the older style Tru Turn, the newer one has more clearance. There is only a half inch clearance with the Tru Turn when I turn to the left. Friday and Saturday I raced it at the Del Mar Goodguys autocross and won the shootout! Got the invite to Scottsdale in November. Today I autocrossed it in our local SCCA and won that too. On a roll. No oil pressure issues at all. I set up a GoPro to record the gauge because I can't see it racing and had no pressure fluctuations at all. Thanks for all the input.
