Something for fun.

What is your ALL TIME favorite movie? The one that has consistantly sat at the top of your short list. And tell us why. Only name one movie, we don't want any lists. One movie and your reason for liking it so much. I'll get us started.

The Good The Bad And The Ugly - 1966

The greatest "guy" movie ever made. It was the movie I subjected my future wife to while we were dating. I felt like, if she could get through this whole movie without complaining once...she's the girl for me. She was a trooper and made it all the way through. We've been married 8 1/2 years. To appreciate this movie, you have got to see it for what it is. It's not just a "spaghetti western" as it's sometimes been tagged. The movie was funded by the Italian government and is considered Sergio Leone's finest work. Ennio Moriconne (the great Italian composer) scored the music and the signature song which is one of the most recognized songs by a composer. Everything from the extreme close-ups to the amazing cinematography and the fantastic performances by Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef make this epic western one of the greatest achievements in motion picture history.

Alright.....let's hear em!

Theres Something About Mary.
One of the greatest funny movies in my opinion. Soo many quotes came from it.
"Franks and beans!"
"How did you get the zipper all the way to the top?!"
"How did you get the beans above the frank?"
"He was masturbating!"
"Have you seen my baseball?"
"Have you seen my weiner?"
"You choke the chicken before any big date don't you? Tell me you spank the monkey before any big date. Oh my God he doesn't flog the dolphin before a big date. Are you crazy? That's like going out there with a loaded gun! "
Go here for some good sound clips. http://www.reelwavs.com/movies/theres_something_about_mary/

The Good The Bad And The Ugly - 1966

Tony, you're the man!

Kinda funny, this came up yesterday with a bunch of my old college buddies. We would drop everything and watch the three "spaghetti's" on TV with my dad at my parents house, but TGTBATU was our favorite. My mom would walk in to find a group of guys watching 'em and say "You guys have seen that movie 10 times!". Our reply: "And if it comes on again, well see for the 11th."

I love many of the aforementioned, but since I work in an office I MUST shout out "Office Space". Never has a movie been so true to my own experiences and so funny too.

I also have to add the Dirty Harry series. Clint was the MAN. I say was since Samuel Jackson is now "The MAN".

It's either Two Lane Blacktop or THX1138... I can't decide. Of course, Mulholland Drive is damn good too. Oh, or 2001.

BTW, I actually think For a few dollars more is better than TGTBATU as a film.

You could make a strong arguement for that one. That WAS also a great film as was Fist Full Of Dollars.

way too hard to Pick a single favorite, but here are two that are real close to being A1.

Dark City low key, film noir, feels like a 1930's crime dective movie.

When i was younger I pretty much had the movie Vacation memorized...
"Clark you think you hate it now...but just wait until you drive it."

Donnie Darko is an amazing flick.

For me, it would have to be:

Star Wars - The Return of The Jedi

Any of the Star Wars will suffice really, but that one is the greatest. It warrants no explanation.

Tell them! Tell them they must see Donnie Darko!

I lent it to an anonymous friend (James Banahan) and he called me in a state of turmoil after viewing it. The movie will mess with your head.

I would have to say Tombstone.....there were so many good quotes that came out of that movie as well. And more main stream actors than 1 could count. "en vino veratas", "I,m your huckleberry", "say when", "you tell him im comming and hells comming with me", "why Johnny you look like someone just walked over your grave", "alright lunger let's do it" "Make no mistake its not revenge hes after its the reckoning"................

I used to be a HUGE Star Wars fan. I had literally HUNDREDS of the freggin toys. Speilberg just blew it all for me with all the re-vamps and the crappy 1-3's. I am officially done with it. The toys are gone and I am no longer a Star Wars geek. Ruined. Do I sound bitter?

My absolute, and in my opinion, funniest movie EVER made...Pink Panther Strikes Again. I was gonna say Dumb and Dumber, but I think PP takes it.

Both in THICK German accents:
Sellers: Doest your dog bite?
Inn Keeper: No
<Sellers reaches down to touch the dog and it about rips his hand off>
Sellers: I thought you said your dog does not bite.
Inn Keeper: Zat ist not my dog.

Too damn funny.

It seems that for most to give an honest answer, this thread needs to be split up into categories:

Favorite Comedy
Favorite Epic / Drama
Favorite Mob Movie
Favorite Western
Favorite Car Movie
Etc, etc.

But Tony said yer 1 favorite, so I'll stick to that.

Stalingrad - might take some searching to find it, but I believe one of my local Blockbusters carries it now.

The Germans know how to do WWII movies - none of that "we're the good guys, nobody you root for gets killed" stuff - war is hell and they know it. The Germans lost the battle of Stalingrad, if you didn't already know.

"Pure Country" I am a huge George Strait fan. Saw my first concert when I was 5 and just always enjoyed his music. The movie just has a good traditional country style. Most city slickers probably wouldn't enjoy this movie.
"Dumb and Dumber" Funniest movie of all times. You have seen it, we all have!

My life fades. The vision dims. All that remains are memories. I remember a time of chaos. Ruined dreams. This wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior. The man we called "Max". To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time. When the world was powered by the black fuel. And the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel. Gone now, swept away. For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing. They built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men. On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed. Men like Max. The warrior Max. In the roar of an engine, he lost everything. And became a shell of a man, a burnt out, desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland. And it was here, in this blighted place, that he learned to live again...

My favorite part in "The Party" is when Sellers shoots that dart gun and it sticks to that actor/cowboy's head. He runs outside. The actor walks over to the doorwall and looks around to see Sellers at the other side of the pool. Sellers says (using Indian accent) "Howdy Par-ta-ner". I lose it every time. I have to agree, you can't pick just one movie.
I'll watch anything with Bruce Willis in it. The Fifth Element and Last man standing are two of my favorites, but he does comedy well too.
One movie that will make me drop the remote when I'm channel surfing is Quiggley Down Under with Tom Seleck:

"This ain't Dodge city, and you're not Bill Hickock."

"Said I didn't have any use for one. Never said I didn't know how to use one"

And lets not forget about the Monty Python movies :lmao: "man eating rabbit" :lmao: . Seeing the movies listed here really brings back some memories. I've busted my gut and shed a few tears laughing at some of them (most of them actually).
