1st off. the guy in the second vid lives. he's bald now, has a false nose and is blind. but he did live. he sued the track for taking so long to get to him the contract said 30 seconds at most. they took 50.

man I cannot believe... 1, he lived through that and 2,the way it lit up, was he driving a gas truck????? DAmn I guess I feel stupid for going cheap on my race fire jacket.
may be a 4 cylender but its almost 5 liters!! if they put the same technology into a v8 it would be so fast a human couldnt drive it

Man, even without gore you can just imagine what that guy was feeling. Actually I bet you can't imagine.
If you read the comments on the video, the guy is racing again(!)..so I don't know about the blindness. Temporarily maybe?

Man I don't know which is more terrifying. The crash/fire, or the abject incompetance of the "safety workers".
yeah if you watch the videos he was very right in suing for neglagence on the part of the track's safety crew. its pretty amazing he lived with how they botched that response.

As a corpsman in Okinawa, I worked at a federal fire station staffed by Japanese Nationals. Great guys, and trained in American EMS Standards, but the Japanese EMT's at the Japanese Fire Stations, had no idea. I never saw a cervical collar or a backboard used. I repsonded to several calls where there were Japanese and American patients. I hated having the Japanese EMT's anywhere near my patient. They scared me. And you would think those EMS providers at a race track would be better trained than those I encountered.
Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone, those videos brought up bad memories. If he had any type of cervical injury, they would could have killed or paralyzed him. The first responder, even went back to his fire extinguisher, after assessing??? the driver.

Amazing. I can't believe the guy lived through that. Credit the safety gear he was wearing I guess.

I'd pretty much just credit GOD for sparing his butt! He should have died from the fire/smoke & heat inhalation!

After recently being in a house fire, I am amazed he survived. I spent no more then 10 seconds in the smoke and I could no longer see or breath. It was one of the most frightening experience in my life. Something that has seriously made me consider a fire suppressant system in my house.

Wow I am glad to hear YOU are ok.
This is a question for you racing fans. I really dont get into the whole racing thing.
Do they really run when it is raining like that? The track looked like it was covered in ice.

Yes Josh, road racers run in the rain and some even like it. I did some practice sessions on a bike in the rain, its amazing how much grip a decent motorcycle tire has in the wet. It is a great way to learn to be smooooth, which makes you fast in the dry.You slide forever if you fall on a wet track.

you should have been at the Super Chevy Show at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce Georgia a couple years ago. The jet car owned by Super Chevy and driven by friend of the owner of Super Chevy hit the wall and the car erupted in heavy smoke and flames. The redneck in charge of the firetruck was riding his motorcycle somewhere at the far end of the track in the woods. It had to have been 20 minutes or so before he got to the accident..and when he did, he ran over the hose, pulling it out of the water outlet on the truck. The driver was burning and was totally engulfed in a dark billowing black smoking fire that is a result of jet fuel which is about like kerosene. The local paper acted like he lived until about 4:00 the next morning. I think his legs were burned off. There's no way anything could live thru 45 minutes of that..It just had to burn itself out. The paper commended the safety crew on their effort. I think the driver of the cars family might own that venue of the Super Chevy now. They should. The cost cutting of the promotor flat out cost that man his life...
