Which coilovers for 68 Camaro?

It seems like the QA1 are pretty popular. Has anyone found a less expensive alternative? I've got the e-bay tubular A-Arms upgraded with Proforged tall upper ball joints and Proforged lower BJ's waiting to be installed once I figure out which coilovers to use. I'm on a tight budget and doing the best I can with what I have to work with.

Viking Performance has double adjustable at about the same prices and is probably the best bang for buck out there. Watch the upper a-arm bushings on those arms, they get sloppy within the 1st year or so. I did a 67 camaro last year with ebay arms, proforged BJ's and vikings on all 4. Upper arms are getting replaced with quality units. Lowers seem to be OK bushing wise. PM with any specific questions on the setup.

Just a heads up, CPP sells a kit for 67-69 or 70-81 Camaro / firebird that uses Viking dual adjustable shocks for $449 shipped. They don't mention that in their eBay listings

I was pleasantly surprised to see this when I opened the box. Whole set-up comes with a 2-year warranty

Wait... Just noticed, yours have a different lower shock mount, mine is a solid style, wonder if it's an economy version of their shocks????

could be, what's the part number on your shock? Mine appear to have a rubber bushing?

Keep in mind mine are for 2nd gen so there could be some differences in the lower mount there

They sell the same kit for 67-69 camaro too...mine is for 70-81

Looks like CPP uses a non Viking brand spring in their kit and the lower poly bushing Viking shock.. Mine is the complete Viking kit with Viking springs and Viking Solid spherical bearing lower mount. Both good kits and yours is definitely a great price. Thanks for showing that there are options out there. :cool:

Gotcha, I knew the spring was def different...but springs aren't that big of a deal to me. I was more concerned about the shocks.

It worked out for me because I have a pair of smooth body dual adjustable viking shocks for the rear coming tomorrow via UPS. I just checked and they are totally rubber bushing shocks like used on the fronts I have in my pics.

you have the Version with a Bearing at the Bottom, the other poster has the Bushing Version. The Bushing Versions will be discontinued at some points

I went ahead and ordered the T-bar and bearing kit from Viking so I can retrofit my shocks, kit was $50

Thought I’d share...for you guys with the Viking Hybrid coilover like posted above, I just saw Viking is now offering those hybrid springs in 750lb and 800lb increments. Whether or not you need that heavy of a spring is another question. They posted on their Facebook page this week so I imagine it’s not in catalogs or suppliers yet.

They should be available if a person call them up to order. I helped spec out the 800lb spring and we tested them last fall on a gbody and they worked out great. If your getting more serious about autocross and need a cheap way to test roll stiffness changes besides sway bars, these would be the ticket. They do not change ride quality as severly as some would think. Full soft on the shocks ans these still ride great on the street.
