I have a <30k mile junkyard LS2 that I've swapped into my Camaro. I swapped the rear cover and seal while the engine was on the stand. After putting the engine in the car I noticed there was always a drop of oil on the seal, and decided I may have nicked it or pinched it. So I put another cover and seal on it. Now that the car is running, it looks like the seal is leaking again. For the second seal I installed it laying under the car, so it's likely I didn't get it lined up just right.
Now that I'm 0/2 on seals I've started reading up on this, and it looks like there are several tools available to ensure the seal is aligned correctly. I'm looking at the Sac City corvette version. Are there any better options?
Am I missing some other critical step to make sure the seal doesn't leak? I didn't lubricate it as these seals claim it's not necessary. The little white plastic guide that comes with the seal really didn't seem to do anything because it's too shallow to keep the seal aligned all the way onto the crank.
At this point, I wish I'd left the original seal on the engine :)
