So i picked up a ls3 to replace the l33 that i have. i was thinking of changing out the camshaft before i install the motor. as much as i read about people liking the 480 motor over the 525 setup would this be a good cam to just swap in? the car is a manual trans so i don't want to have to deal with bucking in traffic. also i have power brakes so i still need to keep vacuum. i also like the lower lift numbers so its easier on the valve train and i don't have to swap out springs and push rods. most cams i see for a ls3 have lots of duration and lift.or would you suggest something else?
Thanks

Of the crate the motors, it's true that the 480 is often more popular(not always), however if you're going to the effort of installing a new cam, there are far better options available in the aftermarket. BTR or PCMofNC to name a couple great aftermarket suppliers.

My buddy got a LS3 430 and swapped in a BTR Stage 2 LS3 cam with matching valve springs. The car has a really nice idle and it rips! At LSFest he ran 11.85@113 through a 4L60 and 9" rear with a weight of 3900. This is in a 66 Fairlane.

My tsp dynoed at 478 and 433. Runs fantastic and pulls hard up to 7000rpms. If you want a nice cam and reliability with the simplest tune get the ls3 hotcam. I have the tune for it that I could send you so you won’t have to take it somewhere and get that done.

Would you mind sharing the A/F & timing tables?

Is there anyway to upload a tune here?

Looks like you can attach a zip file.

I agree, a cam swap...make it worth it. Don’t use a oem cam. I recommend Texas Speed. They grind their own cams and test them in house.

There is something to be said for the factory cams as well. They are easier on the valvetrain and also can be had for pretty cheap. The hot cam or asa cam both make good power. Sure you could get an aftermarket cam and squeeze out a bit more power, but the GM cams are still a good choice.

Spec'ing a cam is more than just hp numbers. It's about matching the powerband to the car and the driving style. Each combo is different and each driver has a different set of goals. There are plenty of off the shelf cams that are good, but are they right for your combo? Do you drag race or road race? There is a long list of boxes to check to get it right the first time. I am WD with Cam Motion, but have used Lingenfelter, Bullet, Crower, and even el cheapo Summit cams. It's all about what works best for you.

I did talk to someone at cam motion today and was suggested the titan 1 ls3 cam. i can still use a a beehive spring and the lobes should be easy on the valvetrain. any other places i should talk to ?
