So I have a Camaro for sale on eBay and I have someone asking me if the title numbers match. I’ve told him the VIN numbers obviously match but I’m not familiar with the title number being on the car. He seems to think this determines if it is a transferred title or not.
Is anyone familiar with this?

I think he is referring to the hidden VIN numbers on the body. One is stamped under the cowl vent panel, the other is stamped behind the heater panel on the firewall. Not that easy to check on an assembled car.

or he could be seriously asking...Believe it or not when I bought my 1970 Camaro the VIN DID NOT match the title!! The build plant letter was wrong. Good thing it was an obvious # error and I was able to fix it. Its a good question to ask because it could have been a tough situation for me after I already handed over the cash.

He may be asking if the title you have in hand is current to the car. If a title is lost or destroyed somehow a duplicate title can be issued. Titles have numbers on them that the DMV can confirm it's the most current. Previous titles are then void.

Not suggesting you don't have the correct title. One of the guys I used to work with wife works at the local MN DMV and she runs into non-current titles every once and awhile.
