Let's see how many of these get stuffed between the frame rails of a Chevy.. :fingersx:

Amazing! I thought Chevrolet was stepping it up with the LT5 crate engine!!!

All the electric cars at sema makes me think we are at the last hurrah of engines like that. Could that be the last of a dying breed?

It wouldn't surprise me if hot rodders of the future were computer nerds...clearly the motor technology is already here. Once the battery technology catches up, the internal combustion engine will be relegated only to very niche applications. Having a 100% electric powertrain is very efficient and more simple in overall design.

I agree. I think my question is how fast is it coming? I'm starting to think sooner than many people think.

I'm no Mopar fan. But that is impressive.

I have no problem going electric on my Daily Driver, so long as I can take my Hot Rod out on the weekends and burn some fossil fuels.....:twothumbs

I'm starting to hear Geddy Lee of Rush singing about his uncle's red Barchetta. :drive1:

Funny enough Im reading this today as I started a new job...I say this because where I started has a sister company that does just that, they buy new Dynacorn Mustangs and build them up with an electric drivetrain...

4" stroke and 4.125 cylinder bore...sounds like a LS rip-off.

impressive for a manufacturer crate engine.

That bore and stroke combination goes back the 427 big block and probably some fords too.

Thing is the these new engines are SO similar in design, its almost no longer Chevy, Ford, or Mopar...Its just a 427...427...Supercharged etc.

...but also very heavy causing handling and responsiveness to suffer.

Great, now I have to start my project over. Does any one make a kit to go from an ls mustang to a hemi?

The "old" 426 Mopar, wedge and Hemi, was 3.75" stroke, 4.25" bore.
The 427 Chevy was 3.76"stroke, 4.25" bore.

I'd love one but my car will likely end up with "just" a whippled 5.7L or a take-out Hellcat engine when I get to Part B of the build.

As far as aftermarket electric platforms, the battery stability/cooling needs to come a long way before electric drivetrains can really be safely be put into the hands of amateurs. Those batteries get very volatile if charged/discharged too quickly. They're preservation strategy and cooling must be spot-on.

Oh mama! I'm a fan of burning oil, but I'd daily the **** out of an electric fastback!

Gas at the track and batteries for work. I can live in that world...

I can't tell you how bad I want to build an all wheel drive electric autocross car. If I had to do it over again and more funds the '55 Bel Air would be all electric. I love burning gas but I'm also a fan of huge torque.

I've always said that anything electric that was once a gas burner I probably wouldn't be interested in. I have several RC boats, some run off of nitromethane and some run off of a gas/oil mixture. The nitro boats are a pain to keep running correctly the gas ones are pretty neat. I saw my first really quick electric boat about a year ago..... I was impressed! These boats have water cooled electric motors in them, and run like a bat outta' .

the mini electric cars with lipo and brushless motors will do standing back flips from a dead stop. The larger scale cars beat the nitro cars on the track.. the club where I used to live no one ran nitro, didnt even have a class for them anymore. If it werent so expensive to convert a classic I would seriously think about it next time I need an engine.
