Where would you guys go to sell a higher end pro-touring build? There's no rush but I don't want to start another with that much money tied up in the first car.

Go everywhere and anywhere ... here lateral g .. ebay .. Craig's list ... auto trader . I mean if you wanna sell it then sell it right ? The more people who see it the greater the chance for a higher return and a faster sale

www.protouringgarage.com, I don't have anything to do with the classifieds section but can put you in touch with that department, we get about 8million hits a month, sold a couple cars from here, including Shecks 69. sold is the wrong word, it's consignment marketing

I would say auction too. I think the audience that would spend at kind of money on a completed car isn’t lurching around the car forums.

Likely not. Though I've heard of some pretty crooked shenanigans at Barret-Jackson and Mecum going down. Cars getting short gaveled before anybody can bid, etc.

Bring A Trailer is probably the best online auction site going right now. It's policies are definitely the most seller-friendly.

One thing to consider is....sadly, Its very likely you wont make money on any high dollar build regardless of the auction place. People go to auctions to get cars cheaper than private party. Seems the cars that go for making money #s are original cars.

Rarely do you get back the money youve spent to build it

Here are a couple of reputable businesses.

You agree on a price and they get whatever they can over that amount.... and its free parking for 90 days while they do all the adds.

I personally would stay away from Barrett - Jackson, at least at Mecum you put a reserve.

Don't believe what you hear. There's a reason why all the top custom/pro-touring cars are sold at Barrett Jackson. Just look at the past auctions. There are already a bunch posted for Scottsdale 2019 on their website.

You can try Mecum if you really need that reserve. But you can also spend several grand doing it, and then bring the car home when it doesn't meet that reserve. Then what do you do with it????

What Mark said.

You can screw around for years with consignment dealers, other auctions with a reserve, online ads, etc.

Or you can take the car to Barrett-Jackson and sell it.

If it's The Right Car (read: Mainstream) with the Right Look, and truly "high-end" with all the details taken care of, then the best place to find The Buyer is probably B-J. If it's a more obscure, off-the-beaten-track model, then I don't know.

The single best thing to do is RESEARCH. Cars are no different than houses. Look for "Comps" -- market comparables -- BEFORE selling. Start by visiting the big auction sites. Look for the "Results" section and take time to find cars that are similar to your. Remember to subtract 10% if the auction site includes buyer's premiums in the transaction data. Look for consensus in the data. You can also research values on dealer sites such as RK Motors, but those prices will be speculative.

...and remember that if your car is odd, it is less predictable on the open market. Example: Red, bone stock 1967 Shelby GT500? - Highly predictable value. Purple Shelby GT500 clone with green/orange flames and triple blowers sticking out of the hood? Crap shoot.

Good luck
