Electric power steering pump for auto-x

I'm considering using an electric pump for my power steering... I have a Sweet MFG rack and 335 tires up front with an approximate weight of 3400lbs. Anyone ever run one of these on an auto cross car? I would think that would be the best "stress test"

I don't think he is a user on here but David Carroll with an LS swapped Datsun Z and an LTG powered Vega. I think the Datsun has an electric power steering assist (rather than electric hydraulic pump).

Thanks for the info, Chad! I'll check him out but I think I'm leaning more towards the electric hydraulic pump. After some more research it seems like the Porsche GT3 uses a hydroelectric pump which is also shared with the Mercedes A-Class. Seems like more than a few big tire, high (relatively speaking) downforce race cars are using this pump with positive results. It's standalone, robust, and reasonably priced. I'm wary of the more common MR2 Toyota and Mini Cooper pumps because they were designed for a small tire lightweight cars. I plan on working this pump to its full potential on an auto cross, and of course navigating those tight parking lots at the grocery store:drive1:

Hey Chris-

A while back I had looked at going with an electric pump- as I don't have any room left on the front of my engine...see below all the info I was able to find.

I ended up getting a Nissan Cube Electric Assist motor and using a Flaming River Manual R&P.

Reading over it-this is the only problem I found with it-



" I have noticed with the 'A' Class that there is a delay of a few seconds before the power steering is active"



A1684660401 operates at 73 bar, or about 1050 psi, according to the label on one I found. That's spot on! I've crossed referenced the Mercedes pump part #'s and they are interchangeable so they must all be pretty much the same.

Corvette pump was designed to limit pump pressure to around 1000 psi.
Corvette pump puts out a controlled flow of around 2.9 gallons per minute
