The car looks great, Ron! A few people have questioned it's status over the past couple of months, so I'm sure they'll be glad to see the update. Nice work.

Aw-ite here's some more....You ask and you shall receive...
All pipes are going to be sent over to Jet Hot to get coated. I was going to get chromed, but as you can see from the blue tint, Chrome won't stand a chance. I like the heat reduction as well.
I have not dyno'd it yet, but it pulls like a bat out of He$$. I'm guessing 650hp. It'll start to spin the 335's on the freeway in 3rd (4.5Krpm@ 65mph) Pulls very hard to 7K. This is just with 8-10 psi of boost. Will go to 15 psi. Wicked Fast. It's so damn cool! :git:

Nice to see the progress on your car, too.

Although I haven't updated my website in a long time. (I need to get off my A$$) been very busy. It will have all the info. on the engine and suspension.
Ron's 68 Camaro (http://users.adelphia.net/~rderaad/index.htm)
I changed over to the Accel DFI air gap Intake, Accel DFI 1200 CFM throttle body and the Banks upper box to bring it all together. More air flow to 7K rpm.
The custom Ron Davis Radiator/Intercooler set-up works fantastic and Tim has always been great to work with. (PLUG)
It has been cool out, but I never see anything over 115 deg at the intake manifold. The engine temps are always at 190.
I wasn't sure on the side pipes, but I needed 3" exhaust and it would have been fun to get under the car and route around the 5 link. One thing they do is give the car is a lower look.

How dare you rip the soul out of that Chevrolet and insert that POS FORD engine! :spank2:
I am joking of course and pocking a little fun at the thread in the open discussion forum.
BTW this thread is worthless without video.

patriot68, The Martz piece is good place to start for the money. I did many mods to it to adapt to my configuration. I added some triangulations to key areas to help support rigidity. I also had to moved the suspension back ~3/4" to get tire to fender clearance. Don't know what they are doing today, but 3 years ago the suspension sat more foward in the wheel well then factory. With less front space on the wheel it probably would of cleared. Now that its all done, the alighnment came right in and it works very good so far. We will see more when I get it to the track.
andrewb70, Yea, to each his own. My reply when someone asks me why I put a Ford in a Chevy is "Why Not!" Why do people put Chevy's in Ford's? Why do people do a lot of things they do. It's all good!
and Yes, I'm trying to get out to Willow Springs for some action video. We will see what she's really got. It would be really cool to have a drifting music vid. :drive1:

Welcome back,Ron. I've often wondered how you and the car were coming along. Tell us more about the mirrors and sidepipes. My Motion 69 Nova had Hooker sidemounts on it and I've wondered about something similiar for my El Camino.

Clint, you're welcome to the sidepipes off my Elky if you want them. I'd love to not have them.
I reckon they're not the style pipes you're looking for though.

That's awesome Ron!
And I have a feeling you will be pushing it to the limit out on the track. I would second the vote to see more motor pictures. Those little 302's with turbo's are awesome little motors...
Great job.

Ron,
Love the ride. :icon996:
I'm considering sidepipes on my 4th Gen Nova or going with something like in your Horton renderings. Are they off the shelf units? Looks like you painted the front of them? Any reqrets with the sound or scraping (or burnt legs)?

My car is probably too low for sidepipes,Derek. The exhaust system on the car now is pretty decent and all it lacks is running it through the rockers. Just too poor and lazy to take the car to my custom exhaust builder in Houston and have it finished.

Mirrors were hand sculptured to fit the contour of the door. A little time here, but turned out nice. I love the view through them and they fit the car well.

Now that's a thought... a turbo 5.0 in a camaro... hmm, I do have a close friend that does turbokits on mustangs....
So has anyone tried to crucify you for putting a ford motor in your chebby yet?

I've been waiting to see progress on this car. I'm drooling over it. Can we get a better picture for desktop use? I love the combo. :hail:

Welcome back Ron. The car looks great. Glad you had the guts to run the modified boss stripe. The side pipes are bugging me though. You might want to consider coating them flat black. Or better yet, build a tunnel (or two tunnels) in the trunk pan so that you can run the exhaust over the rear suspension. Another member here is running a Watts 3-link and that is what he will do.

That's an incredible Camaro. I love the suspension and detail. The choice of power plants is awesome as well, along with the Boss stripes.
Have fun with it and let us know how it does on the street and track.

Am I keeping up with everybody’s questions? I apologize if I miss any.
Thank You everyone for your positive responses.
Matt, I haven't been lynched yet. Usually I start out with everything it has and keep out the little detail of a Ford engine. Smallblock 302, Twin Turbo, 6 speed, 600+hp etc. This sets the stage in excitement and then lift the hood. Some stare at it a moment (some longer then others) and look at me and say "IS THAT A FORD". I say, yep! Most people are good with it, but their are a handful that shake there heads and ask WHY would I do such a thing?
Little Bob, I can e-mail you some bigger images if you want. I don't put them on my web server because of space issues.
Steve C, I was trying to stay away as much as possible in how much cutting I did to the car. Tunnels were a little more then I wanted to go. I would have gone back to 2.5” pipe and run down the center and through the watts link. I was even contemplating splitting into two 2” pipes a side.
As for the handling and performance on the street, it’s awesome. A lot smoother ride then I thought it would be. Very smooth, flat and responsive in the local canyons.
I had a new mini cooper trying to keep up with me in the corners (key word “try”) I wasn’t even pushing on it hard either. Effortless…. The only issue I will have is keeping the backend stuck. This is me…. all throttle control baby.

I got a question for you all.....
I will be getting an appraisal on the car when its done, but based on what you've seen in the pics. What kind of $$$ are these going for these days.
I heard that a built red 69 with a 540 at the PRI show (Performance Race Industry) was going for $420K. Its nice and all, but damn! I would be just fine if mine was only half as nice. :jawdrop:

Looks fantastic.
I dig that stack dash. You wouldn't happen to have a template of the backing plate you made would you?
Question: What are the two knobs to the lower left of the dash unit?

Just from looking at the car you can tell lots of time went into it and money. So I would say 180k with labor and parts IMO. Again this is just from the pics. I really dig the car :yeah:

Damn True, I was looking around for the template with no luck. Stack has 4 push buttons to toggle through the functions of the dash. I placed 2 on each side of the steering column under the dash for easy access. Works very nice.
