What if you have a LS engine, manual trans, and cruise control. Now I understand the correcting answer here would be to down shift, so this is more of a what if question. If you’re using cruise control in 6th gear, and start to climb a steep hill, the engine would bog down and want to detonate, if left in 6th gear. Now the car is losing speed, but the cruise control wants to add more throttle to maintain speed. How would the engine controller and the cruise control handle this situation?

It won't you still need to downshift manually. You will also want to have a clutch switch to deactivate cruise in cases like this.

I know on my stock system is seems like there is a limit to how much throttle the cruise will apply. I will lose speed climbing & it does not seem like the system is overworking to maintain the set speed. My guess is that there is a set load maximum value allowed.

If your considering adding a aftermarket cruise, usually the cruise will shut down if the hill is super steep. Rostra makes a fine set up.

I have that setup, with the rostra cruise unit, and have logged quite a few highway road trip miles. Some fairly steep grades in the blue ridge mountain areas, never had an issue. Never had to down shift. Even on steep grades it would only slow 1-2 mph
