I've been kicking around the idea of making the factory 80Z hood scoop a little taller for more air cleaner clearance, about an inch or so. I know I can get a 2-4" cowl hood, but I'd rather have the stock teardrop with the stripes, just a little taller. Working with plastic could be tough though I've got to think. Could I use fiberglass to blend the plastic into the steel hood?

I was also planning on shaving the front sidemarkers, but that is pretty straight forward I'm sure. Weld in some metal and clean it up.

The 80Z fender vents could also be bolted in and then welded into the fenders and blended in easily enough I think. But I was wondering how tough it would be to cut them so that the recessed area is all there is, instead of the outer bulge as well.

Has anyone tried something like this or have any tips they could give from a similar project?

Here's the idea in photoshop form.
