Anyone with the 70-73 Camaro with quadra link with a Rick’s tank? How wide is it? I think I had mine narrowed to fit an exhaust but enable to check being out of the country.

Mine just came in, 37” not installed yet.

hmm. the DSE tank is a lot narrower. I really hope Hector sent me the right one for my car, I too have quadralink and mini tubs.

I spoke with Hector via email. Their standard tank is 37” for the 4-link systems out there. It was the best size for tank capacity. I asked Hector to make me one like DSE. I think my original is 37” but doesn’t leave adequate room for 3” tail pipes

I have to believe folks have successfully used these 37" tanks from Ricks for this applications. Any pics out there?

It’s not, I tried. A 2.5” might fit ok, 3” just not enough.

Don't settle for 2.5". 3" pipes will fit if that's what you want!!
I ordered the tank from Hector with Rick's Tanks specifically designed for the mini tubbed rear with Quadralink fitment on my 70 camaro. Tanked has the angled front corners to clear the exhaust. Then used the Pypes 'prefabbed' 3" stainless exhaust kit that's made to supposedly work with the DSE Quadralink. Then after extensive modification, made it fit much better and clear all the hardware in a much more clean manner. I am very happy with the results. I saw several people using the under the axle exhaust and didn't like the look for a bunch of pipes hanging down low under the car. Sorry I don't have the tank with me right now at my house to give you the measurements. All I can say is that Hector knows his stuff and his recommendation was spot on to allow this all to come together as you see it.
You may notice that I cut the floor out above the mufflers so I could recess those areas further into the car and gain a little more ground clearance. A lot of nip and tuck to hide the exhaust as tight up under the car as possible all the way back to optimize ground clearance. That was my biggest issue with my old 2.5" system on the car in stock form is that the mufflers were always dragging on something. I hope this helps you see what's possible to get 3" exhaust all the way back, using quadralink and Rick's tank. Sorry I don't have any photos with tank installed. Unfortunately I lost those photos when my phone got erased before I could get it backed up.

I find this very interesting....so you chose not snake the exhaust over the top on the panhard bar which is why the tanks are notched at the corners to begin with. I’m not sure if I like it..... what does it look like with the tank installed?

Like Badazz I have the exact same combination of parts for my '70 Firebird: Quadralink, Ricks Tank, & the Pypes kit, so thanks for posting these photos...very helpful. I think I'm using the same cross member as well. Nice to see it can be made to work. Did you have to purchase any extra pipe? Also wondering if you had to cut away any of the trunk?
That's a great idea to create more clearance for the mufflers. Someone should make and sell pieces to raise the floor in that area.

^^ did you buy their tail pipe kit too? I was wondering if they changed the design. Those tail pipes above are nothing like Pypes offers.
The floor mod is pretty common on the DSE cars, surprised they don’t sell them. They have lots of good ideas they don’t market.

BadAzz, You are exactly right, the Pypes kit is intended to route over the top of the panhard bar, but I found we had less that 1/4" of clearance between the tank and the 3" pipe by using the intended routing. This was too close for comfort having a hot exhaust that close to the fuel tank. By going under the panhard bar instead, we still definitely need the tank notching, but instead of being nearer the upper part of the notch, my pipes are now passing by the lower portion of the notch instead and have approximately 1" of clearance now. I will still likely use some heat shielding on the corners of the tank, but the clearances are much more acceptable. Unfortunately the pictures I had of this were lost and the tank is not currently in the car or I would snap you some new pics.

Badazz - I did buy the Pypes complete kit, including tail pipes, but after significant alteration and purchasing some additional mandrel bent pipe section to make it work, we arrived at what you now see.

Alponcho - Glad to hear you are making a '70 Bird fly even better. Love the 70-73 body style lines. The only complaint I have about the cross member, is that its my closest possible rub point on the exhaust, and because of the necessary routing of the exhaust, the pipes going under the cross member are now the lowest point under the car with the least ground clearance. Still not a deal breaking, but with some cross member redesign, I think they could give you a little more room to route the exhaust around it.
Yes, I did have to purchase some additional mandrel bends to fish the pipe around the rear axle hardware. Fortunately I did not have to alter the trunk floor to get the necessary clearance.
I'm sure someone will come up with rear seat floor mod panels, but some of the custom stuff like this is what makes custom car builds fun, so that each of us can have some unique creations.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your build.
