Hi all,im setting up a US GEAR 3:73 street ring and pinion.
I used a T&D Machine pinion depth tool, and it read I needed to use a .036 shim, used that but the pattern didnt look right, and I had .011 backlash on the ring gear.
Today I used a .034 shim,and got .009 backlash.
How do my patterns look?,I used a .032 and the pattern 2as really high,I didn't take pictures thou.
Thank for any help

I got an answer thru email from the engineer at us gear,he said both patterns looked good, said run it.
Great customer service from us gear.

Lol here I was going to chime in and say it look decent to me but, I'm no mechanic . Was afraid someone would come on here and blast me into next week with some technical stuff that I don't know about lol

Lol,yeah I read a bunch of posts online and thought, why not ask the gear mfg? Well I got there engineer to look at my pattern thru an email.i had motive before the us gears and there service sucks.they cost about $60 more than motive but the gears are us made and easy to set up with a setup bearing and a td machine tool.

Ryan, from what the engineer said you want the Drive side centered on the pattern, but more toward the toe of the gearand as load is applied the pattern climbs to the center.
You will need a good indicator,a snap on bearing splitter, inch pound torque wrench,FT torque wrench,a set up bearing and if you have the cash the td machine tool, but the set up bearing only works good too.

I would have run that too. It's maybe. 001-.002 deep but making that small of a move won't make a difference and could potentially screw it up. Good idea on calling Us Gear. I have used a few sets and it's worth the extra cost. If you are still questioning the pattern, post up on team chevelle and biggearhead usually gives feedback and is super helpful.
