Steering box recommendation....?

With the motor out of my 1970 Nova I'd like to replace/upgrade my steering. The car is street driven, no autocross (maybe someday). I'm going absolutely nuts trying to find a reasonable replacement that gives 14:1 or 12.7:1. Everywhere you look is the CPP 500 box but I've heard and keep seeing bad stuff about them. The 85 Monte Carlo SS box is like a unicorn as well. Below are the 2 options I'm leaning towards.

There's a place in Phoenix called Benchworks Steering that I used to rebuild the stock steering box in my 69 Chevelle. They can change the ratio & feel of the box. They put in a 12.7 ratio and gave it a stiffer torsion rod so it has good road feel. Was about $300 and they told me if I didn't like how it drove I could take it back and they would change it for free.

Depending where you are in the country I'd try one of the rebuilders first. The only thing to be aware of is that you may have to replace some of your steering components because the input shaft to the box may become a different size. I avoid CPP stuff at all costs.

I purchased a rebuilt 1988 IROC Z box from O'Reilly Auto Parts and adapters to use the old lines on the new box from Lee, and a rag joint from the newer model to fit the spline. If you are not racing, and don't need the latest aluminum or titanium box, this one is a good solid quick ratio alternative. I believe it is about 12.7:1. It bolts right in place. It was easy on the wallet and presented no real technical challenges.

I have a new Lee 14:1 with a 30 lb valve. It is fantastic!! No over assist at all. Its like have the best of manual and power all in one box..

I also did the IROC Camaro quick ratio box conversion and it's been great. Bolts in and done.
-1992 Camaro box
-3/4"-30 Spline Rag joint coupler
-Build or Adapt existing lines to match the M16 and M18 O-ring fittings in the box and you're on the road again.

I also did the iroc box in my nova.Still under construction so I can't give real driving impressions but is less than three turns lock to lock. See www. pozziracing.com/camaro_steering.htm. In the process of removing now (if I can get it out). Gonna send to Benchworks in Zona and have them tighten it up to 14:1. I'll report back once done.
