Throttle response difference? Drive by wire vs cable driven...

Purchasing an LS soon.

Does anyone have experience using a fuel injected drive by cable throttle body (Holley sniper,FItech, FAST, etc...) with a traditional intake (edelbrock dual plane, etc) versus the drive by wire set up that comes standard on crate LS motors?

I really enjoy the crisp, immediate response when blipping the throttle on my current carbed 383. Will that be lost with the drive by wire standard LS set-up?

Thanks!

DBW works awesome. I would never swap to a single or dual plane with TBI, over the multipoint EFI OEM setup. That is just going backwards...

If you are getting something like a crate LS3...definitely keep DBW.

I'm trying to decide between the ls3 480 crate and a few LS stroker options with no induction. The TBI also helps on the cost. Still undecided, weighing all options +'s and -'s.

Multiport would be my only choice for either of those motors...

No matter what engine you choose, going with multi point EFI and DBW is the best option.

Ditto. Compared to the TBI stuff on the market now (prices constantly increasing), stock stuff is cheaper. It's also leagues better. Yes, I have a DBW LS in my 1963 Ford Falcon.

My wife's infinity is DBW (my only experience with DBW) and the throttle always feels a little laggy compared the seemingly "hair trigger" on my Camaro (which is running TPI electronics with an aftermarket manifold and obviously cable driven throttle).

But I'd imagine that has to be something tunable in the PCM. Not that I'm looking to change her car, but just thinking in terms of what the OP was saying. Have any of you LS guys tuned the DBW parameters?

The good news/bad news depending on how you look at it is that DBW throttle response is a tunable item. I've driven DBW cars with imperfect tunes and it not only can ruin the throttle response but make the car a turd in autocross.

ETA: my own LS powered Camaro is DBW and I'm very happy with the throttle behavior. Also, if you are referring to a fast deceling engine than outside of a bad tune, the mass in your flywheel/clutch combo will have a bigger effect.

Seems like there are many pros going DBW. If only comparing throttle response though I would think DBW could only be as good or worse, never better than DBC. I swapped to DBC with my crate LS3

I find this question silly because nearly every car made in the last 10-12 years is a DBW throttle body. Riding around in your daily driver will give you a comparison. FWIW, there are no ill effects. DBW works great and cleans up installation. It may not be as responsive with a 10 thousandths of a pedal depression like a cable, but your not doing that anyways.

DBW has alot easier tunability than DBC.. in reference to throttle % to pedal travel, and lag time between pedal movement to throttle movement can be adjusted as well..

Is one "better" than the other??? IDK... I have had both leave me stranded on the side of the road..
DBC definitely easier/quicker/cheaper to repair
