View Full Version : Modern intermittent washer setup for Classic ???

Did anyone here ever get a modern intermittent wiper motor setup like DSE had working on their classic ???
I've gotta get one for a 78 Camaro and a 1970 Olds Cutlass/442, and I know someone figured it out.

I tried to contact JHunter from his really old thread, but I'm standing by waiting to hear from him.
All the pics with the information went tits up thanks to Photobucket.

I had links to this project I started years ago for the switch, and the Deville motor but never got it figured out.
These guys went beyond where I left off.

now I just gotta determine what exact wiper motor they are using for replacements in case it fails in a few years.

They have been around a long time, not going anywhere.

FWIW, I have been using them for near 20 years and never needed a replacement motor.

I used a mid 90's Caddy wiper motor and the turn signal stalk. I'm in it for less than $30 from the junkyard. I needed one with a park function for my 71 Corvette.

Since I'm doing a pushbutton start- I put the stalk where the key was. But you can see the switch/controller is not that big at all.

The wiper motor itself uses a 6 pin weatherpac connector- and has an output for a washer pump. Two of the three mounting holes lined up- one hole in the firewall-done.

See the bottom pic- white is switched ignition- Black ground- yellow/brown/green/pink control wires- red and blue power the pump. Really not complicated at all.

So you have a park function on this particular motor ???

How did you determine this would link up correctly without any kind of brackets, etc ??? Just trial and error ??

Just trying to get a feel for your setup is all in case I try this route.

Every aftermarket intermittent kit using the Cadillac 90's motors, I see they made some kind of special bracket to adapt.....hence why I'm asking.

Obviously using GM OEM parts is what I'm after because of replacements make it alot easier, and you got a matching set which eliminates the resistance issues.

Yes- I have a park function-this motor is the same as several large GM's in the 90's from Olds/Buick/Pontiac. I was able to use a Corvette C4 motor( Same as a late 80's Oldsmobile but cheaper because it doesn't include the Corvette tax!) and put the Caddy module on it. You can see they are clocked different- so basically the three wire smaller motors with park function will work with the module/control/stalk. The kits just use a bracket to clock the motor.



The old Corvette motor and the Caddy motor (and from what I could find most all GM from 60-90s) use the same stud/shaft on the back of the motor. So I just bolted the Corvette linkage bracket on the Caddy motor.

When looking for a motor- the 8 pin motors have the 'rain sensor' - can be added but really a sort of pain-and the motor will not work w/o the sensor.

The $10 dollar controller and 10 minutes at the junkyard- the stalk can be trimmed down and with a little creativity the knob of your choice.

I used a 60's Ford Mustang Bezel on my column and the Knob the end of the stalk- as I wanted period look.

Originally I fitted a 60's style ground/shunt controlled motor with the 90's module-however- I had to use a couple outboard relays in order to change the polarity and swap solenoids inside the motor.

Totally forgot about this thread, thanks for the big information with pics brother.

Huge help, I think I'm going to attempt my own like you did.

I just gotta envision the "clocking" fix better so I can grasp how it was done.
