My father recently bought a car just like his first car. This car was his first new car also and given to him for working on his dad's farm for 3 years with out pay. This is also the car he had when he got married and went on his honeymoon in this car.
He bought this replacement car from California from pictures on E-bay. All I can say is the guy he bought it from did a good job avoiding the problems it had in the pictures. The car took like a month or two to get here which is rediculous.
We began to think he was scamed since it took so long. It eventually shows up while he is on vacation and I take possesion of it.
When I pick them up from the airport he asks how the car was. All I said was I don't know what you were told so I won't comment. I get him home and he looks it over and says "well it not quite a piece of ...". As we get into the car it is actually a very solid and complete car it was just your first impression that made you wonder what your in for. Well we start restoration of the car and here are the pictures of his first car and the one we are working on.
If you know where to get parts for it let me know there are some aluminum moulding and chrome trin we need.

Hope you enjoy
Later Kevin

Edit: Please don't try to work around the profanity filters. They're there for a reason.

I dig it. Is that the correct color, or is a repaint in the near future?

The car has been repainted in Palimino tan the color of his first car. This car is identical with the exception of the Engine. He originally had a 289 V8 and this one has a 260 V8. Good thing it was solid because parts are hard to find. We are having trouble finding a hard headliner with correct material pattern. I might have to figure out how to heat press the material to make the correct pattern for the hard headliner. We are currently looking for drivers door aluminum fill piece and passengers door chrome strips that don't need major rework.

Since he is restoring it it will be back to original. I don't think I can talk him into much of a PT upgrade.

Maybe not... but it'd be worth trying to get him to at least do safety upgrades - better brakes, 3 point seatbelts.

not many choices for non-mustang ford/mercury

stock/repo stuff:

hot rod stuff:

if it is a nostalgia piece, he won't want to make it like most of us on this site would build it. But I agree w/
derekf -- at least swap some front discs in...

though maybe you could talk him into the vintage racer look:
