Hi Guys,

I'll be adding an intercooler to my setup and want to be sure that I'll be able to mount the FMIC without blocking any hood latch parts, etc...

What's the choice of 1st Gen owners???

I'm looking to use either a 3 or 4 inch thick core...

Any success stories?

Thanks,
TIM

One of my buddies is building a twin turbo ls1 setup in his '68.. won't be done for a while, but I'll see if I can jack their ideas for ya.

Here's one from Ron Davis Radiators specifically for the first gens. Uses the stock hood latch. Doesn't block the whole radiator, and allows the Vintage Air condenser to be used also.

Check out Jody's old project: http://www.camcojb.com/twinturbo/

There are some ideas and lots of pics of his custom intercooler setup. I'm sure he can help you out.

EDIT: I guess we posted at the same time, sorry.

Here is the one I had Ron Davis make for my '68. It does block the latch but that's the way I planned it. I plan on running a pair of Corvette latches in the corners to eliminate that problem. It's massive and it's my design. After seeing Jody's I kinda kicked myself in the head but, I'm sure it will far exceed my needs and I love it.

Funny thing is here are my first sketches before I decided to eliminate the latch.

Larry, can you post pics of your 'Vette latch setup?

I still need to fit an intercooler on my car and the hood latch and bracing for it is a HUGE obstacle in my fitment... I didn't really want to go to hood pins/locks sticking out of the hood and I'd like to see your 'Vette latch solution. What year latches are you using?

Troy, I've not had time to install it yet but here are the parts and where I will put them. I'll make sure of the year but I think they are '85's

The pictures are not very good but it gives you an idea.

I totally forgot about this. Not only was my first thought like Jody's I even made one out of foam board.

Check these out. LOL!

I guess I started off the Ron Davis intercooler craze. I can't say enough about the Ron Davis products. With the custom work it was still a cheaper way to go with I think Better quality. I was able to fit behind the core support due to the engine setting back 4", but I like the shorty in front. I'm curious to see the eff. differences vs. pressure drop comparision. Currently mine runs around 100-115 at the intake manifold at 10#of boost at 60-70 outside air temp. Not bad, If I remember right thats about a 150 deg drop. I still need to get a pressure drop.

Ron! Long time no talk too. For those that don't know we just live maybe 3 miles apart. I so need to come over and visit. I'd love to see the car. Mine still looks like it did when you came over. Talk about slow!

Its back in the air getting worked on. After some miles I'm going through everything. Mostly minor stuff. I pulled the McLoud twin disc to see why it was engaging so far down on the pedal. My fault...I'll take the blame on that one. Throwout bearing adjustment :banghead: Good thing it easy with this car. I pulled everything within an hour.

Anywho, If I can remember where you live I'll drive by one weekend so you can take a drive. I'm going to do my best to finish interior in '06. Nothing another 10-15K wouldn't cure.
