Hope somebody can help identify the terminals used in this plug. I believe it's a molex connector. It's the main power harness for a Retrosound Model 2 Radio. I'd like to make my own harness rather that splicing to their provided harness. I just need the terminals. I already tried contacting Retrosound but was told to try an electronics parts store. Thanks for the help in advance.

Try Waytek wire. They have really good pictures of all the parts they sell.

It would be nice to know what series Molex connector that is. I am surprised the vendor is not being more helpful.

Thanks Andrew. I did try Waytek but didn't see anything that resembles it. I was a little surprised too.

I just registered after lurking on the site and I have been doing car audio since the late 70's and it looks like a VW/Audi radio connector. I doubt if you will be able to buy the connectors by themselves from Metra Electronics in Florida (Metraonline.com) but here are some part numbers that might work: Metra 70-1787, Metra 71-1784.

The above plug "might" be able to be cut apart and to get the terminals out probably requires a small dental pick to release the locking tab(s).

Thanks Jim. I emailed them to see if they can sell or provide a vendor and part number for the terminals. I figure it's worth a shot.

Metra is a supplier and manufacturer of parts I have used for many, many years and even if you cannot get the terminals themselves raw, I have extracted terminals from plugs and then very carefully, opened up the crimps and then remove the old wire, put in the new wire, crimp it onto that and then add a little solder to the joint.

I know through the years I have always hated cutting off factory or existing ends and have more than once robbed terminals from one plug to use in something else.

You know I wonder too, if VW or Audi sells the terminals raw for repairing vehicle wiring ?.

Good luck with your project.

I may do that if I cannot get the raw terminals. I'll check with VW/Audi too but I suspect they provide you with a wire crimped to the terminal that will then need to be splice to repair. It's worth a shot though.

Thanks,

Robert
