Engine color

I am getting ready to detail my engine and not sure if I want to paint it body color or something else. My concern is that engines painted body color may date the car and I am looking for something more timeless. Whats your opinion? Also what the consensus on engine bay color, black or body color also. I guess this may be better as a poll but not quite sure how to do that.

I gotta say black. Black is timeless. factory color is old school. and body color is "street roddish"

This is a tough one! My opinion, it really depends on the car, engine type, and the owner's tastes. My tastes vary by car, but I prefer to keep it close to factory with minor "enhancements".

If I could afford it, I'd do an all aluminum engine with the whole damn thing smoothed and polished, then the engine bay sheetmetal all the same color as the exterior.

I really like a Black engine along with a satin black engine bay..then lots of aluminum (not chrome) around it. Tastefull, yet not too much bling.

What is the body color? What color is the chassis or subframe?

The body is going to be a burnt orange color like 1968steveLS2's Camaro :worship: . and the chassis will probably be black.

I like it mostly body color with no chrome, some polished aluminum, and all hoses, wires, etc to be black.

I also like the look of "factory correct" colors, but with hi-po parts

I would do either black or body color. If it were mine it would depend on inner wheel well and firewall color too much of one color is not a good thing IMO

it has been our experience that paint and powder coat don't match.....not only sometimes in color but the sheen or shine of the paint verse the powder coat......If your going to paint the block I would paint the intake also. Polished wouldn't bad either!

I just did mine last weekend.... it's painted body-color (blue), with the tops of the "fins" polished. It looks really good, except the factory aluminum intake is very porous, so the fins I polished have a lot of tiny holes in them :(

I think the style of the build dictates the color of the engine and bay.IMO, if your painting the car a modern color I say engine bay needs to be body color.I would also paint the engine silver or light grey depending on your other engine components.if your valve covers were a brushed finish I would use grey.If there polished or plated I would use silver.Just some food for thought.

Excellent point :icon996: I totally forgot about grey. I now remember Trepanier doing his motors in grey and they looked really classy with the aluminium. I was leaning towards black because that is what the 95 LT1 was and its easy and I didn't think Chevrolet orange would fit. I think we have a winner!!!!

I had my intake manifold and valve covers powder coated a dark metallic grey with aluminum heads. The block will be black.

I have to say I personally am disgusted with black engines.... even black engine bays... then again I'm a mopar guy... engine bays were body colored from the factory and the engines were never black.... personal preference i guess

This is easy. Orange is such an awesome color and I feel the engine has to match the color of the body. When we paint the Mustang orange, the engine will be painted to match. I think a lot of people voted before they knew your car color was orange. Engine bay should also be orange IMO.
