View Full Version : Is anyone running Caltracs on a leafsprung rear end?

Im balls deep in a 91 s10 pro daily build and wondered if anyone had any setup tips for caltrac traction bars for road racing/autocross/spirited corner driving. I am building this truck to spec to USCA GT class and SCCA street modified classes so swapping out to a 4 link is out, however since a leaf spring acts as both spring and trailing arm it appeared as though caltrac bars could possibly be a work around to a leafsprung suspension that has a lot of qualities of a 4 link. There is a ton of information out there for setting them up for drag racing, but thats not my cup of tea. Any tips or pointers are appreciated.

I would back them off as much as you can so they bind the suspension as little as possible. They were engineered for straight line traction not really handling.
I would not use them for a handling application. Maybe look into a well engineered leaf spring that fights spring wrap. Are you drag racing it too?

Sadly thats what most of its track time will end up being. I live in a black hole of tracks. I am 2 hours away from the closest track that isn't dirt. The truck is being built to do a number of things pretty well, but not one thing really well. It will end up being more of a pro daily.

I ran Caltracs on my Camaro for years and its actually ok if you back them off. Try it and it might be just fine for what you're doing.
