Hello all. I have a question. I have a nice set of these wheels that I was planning on using for an autocross event and I am wondering if they will hold up? It’s a week long event. If they get beat up then so be it but I don’t want them to break. They are on my 71 Camaro. Dse front and rear suspension, 502, Falken 415 tires.
they will not be tracked all the time. Maybe a few times a year. I also have billet specialities wheels but I don’t want to beat them up too bad.
thanks in advance.
here is a pic of the wheels on my car.
they are the one piece cast wheels, not the 2 piece.

As a general rule of thumb, cast aluminum is not as strong as forged or billet.

how old are they? If you decide to not use them, I might be interested if your wanting to sell them. Just a thought
I would run them. The only wheels i have personally seen break were either heavily used or had sticky 315's. I know there are other cases out there but i wouldn't sweat it.

They are brand new. I bought them specifically to beat up on the track actually. But then of course you hear the stories of people braking rims etc. I mean I make a habit of checking wheels for cracks etc.
They are all black now no polished lip. If I consider selling them I will let you know. I am doing cars and cones in April from Indiana to North Carolina so I just don’t want to be stranded needing a whee ya know.

They will be fine assuming you have the correct mounting hardware.

I've been autocrossing on mine for almost two years, now. As long as it's low speed autocross events, you'll be fine. I don't think I'd trust a cast Chinese wheel on high speed road courses, though.

Almost all cast aluminum wheels are made in China. This includes OEM applications like the GT350 and Corvette. Cast wheel manufacturing technology and QC is equal to if not better than any foundry in the US. I am amazed at the quality of cast wheels for the price these days. Were you not impressed when you opened your Rambler boxes??? What makes you think they will just fall apart when pushed versus and American cast wheel (good luck finding one).

I've seen various forms of wheels crack and fail. I think the key with any vehicle you're going to track is to always inspect it carefully. Tires, wheels, brakes, suspension. All safety critical components. That means pulling the wheels off and giving them a once over a few times a season (which anyone who tracks a car should be doing anyways). The U111 Rambler is a fairly robust design, not a spindly "artsy" design, I have no qualms about running mine.

Well, maybe my remark about a Chinese cast wheel should also include American made cast wheels. It's just the nature of the beast. Cast aluminum in and of itself is just weaker. Typical low speed autocrossing will be fine, but high speed road course driving adds more stress and heat(through the brakes) which will push any wheel(and other parts) to it's limits. That's why I just wouldn't put much trust in ANY cast wheel for that kind of racing. Forged wheels may be expensive, but you get what you pay for.
I was a wheel to wheel racer. I would bet that 70% of the cars out there had cast wheels including mine. We would all try to pick meaty spoke designs from atleast a company we had heard of.
US mags makes a fine wheel
