Hey all
I’m pretty virgin (be gentle) to this whole Pro-touring / handling thing so this Is a learning curve for me.
Quick back story on the toy, I bought this truck 5-6 years ago from the original owner with the sole intention to just drive the wheels off of it. it’s a 1967 Ford F100, short bed, 240 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree. I did start driving it and honestly loved it. tons of complements everywhere I went. One morning I went out to leave for work and the truck was in the middle of the street. at this point I knew the engine was done. Virtually zero compression and just plain worn out. So being that I work in the performance world and I like to do things a little different I decided that I need to build a 300 6 cyl…..so I did… block was zero decked, flat tops, ported head, nasty custom ground cam, header with twice pipes and a 600 cfm 4 barrel, and a Frankenstein electronic ignition that I built. I installed the engine, broke in the cam and took her for a test drive. Thing was fun to drive. Skinny little tires just spun their butt off. After the test drive I never touched the truck again. Life was just crazy, 2 athletic boys in high school that did sports year round took my attention from the truck….all good. My boys are my life……………..BUT now that they are graduated and off to college …………….. IT”S MY TURN !!
Here is the NEW plan (with heavy influence from the Hackster built)
THIS IS A VERY BUDGET ORIENTED BUILD. NOTHING CRAZY HIGH END AND 100% DONE BY ME
2009 cop car (p71) Crown Vic front swap, Lincoln Mark VIII IRS rear, coil over’s all 4 corner’s, 3:55 gears and a posi, 2016 Mustang track pak wheels tires, stick with the 6 Cyl for now, T-5 5 speed for better gear split and over drive. Future plans are swapping to an 6.0 LS, Mast head’s, custom cam, Holley Hi-ram, 102mm t-body. 120 injectors, along with an S480 turbo that is in my garage now. I’m looking for a T-56 6 speed but I have a TH400 in the garage and might just go 4L80E……….anyways

Back in July my Dad came over for a week just to hang out. I took time off of work to hang out with him. All he could talk about was this truck and the CV swap that I wanted to do. I told him hell lets start cutting her up. He was like a kid in at Christmas. The next morning, we started disassembling the sheet metal and leveling the truck on jack stands to get ready to fire up the saw-z-all. I did a ton of reading up on this front long before I even bought the suspension just so I knew what I was in for on the front side.
Since I live in Northern Nevada and at the base of the Sierra’s I want this truck to handle and haul ass. In this area there is plenty to do year round so I want it to be a driver too.

Once the old suspension was all cut out I bolted on a front fender, took a piece of 1" solid I had laying around and put it on top of the frame. slid the wheel on and them centered it in the fender. I then marked the location of the location on the frame. this now gave me the centerline of the wheel. I then transferred this to the bottom side of the frame. on the Crown vic front suspension their is a centering point that is in the suspension cradle that is also the centerline of the wheels. drilled the 3/4 hole, then the four holes to bolt her in, sleeved the inside of the frame for the bolts, and bolted it in to be sure all was well

once the front was buckled up I moved onto the rear. the rear is an IRS from a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII. this rear has aluminum 8.8 diff that I regeared to 3:55 along with a Yukon Possi unit with Carbon Fiber clutches and an upgraded 800lb spring, New bearings seals and installed ARP carrier bearing cap studs, a solid pinion spacer and topped it off with a forged 1350 yoke

once that was done I removed all the stock suspension and sold it off to help fund this beast. while their is a "kit" to install the IRS rear I personally don't care for it. after much research I found a ton of info and decided to box the frame in the rear, cut the stock IRS cradle and weld it directly inside the frame. this will make it way stiffer compared to mounting to stock rubber mounts

in my quest for information I had asked about rear coil overs and was told " it's impossible" this lit a fire under me to prove them wrong.....so I did. this is what I came up with. .250 plate drilled for 3/8 fasteners, drilled and tapped lower control arms that I will put a washer and nut on the bottom side just because i'm a freak like that.

Thank you for the kind word's.
this past weekend I didn't get as much time in on the truck as I would have liked but it's all good. I leave for the PRI show in the morning so no progress for a week or so for me. Anyways this is all I got done
mocked up the rear mount tank just to get an Idea of where she landed....talk about 10 lbs of shhh in a 2 lbs bag

once I was somewhat happy I put the bed back on to see what was next on the chopping block. back when I was originally measuring out where the "new" axle centerline will be I also measured the bed and mocked up the wheel in the wheel well and marked center. as you can see with the plumb bob its dead on

Been hectic lately with PRI, Boys coming home from college for the holidays and just life in general. I did manage to make it out in the garage to remove the bushings from the rear knuckles and install the studs in the hubs. today at lunch I plan on installing the new bushings and hubs in the knuckles

unfortunately I needed to cut the inner fender wells on the rear to gain much needed clearance for the upper control arm. I mathed out that I would need 4 inches to gain the room needed. in the pics the upper control arm is actually hitting and wouldn't allow any more up travel.
I sat back in a chair smoking a cigar, staring at how I wanted to do this and this is what I came up with

I cut the inner side of the fender well straight and then the bed floor, removed 4 inches that's needed. I then cut the top portion off and moved it toward the bed side to gain some up travel

Got some work put in after the whole flu thing kicking my butt. I did end up going air bags front and rear. rears are D2600's and I did the Shockwaves in the front. i sat down and really rethought this build and i felt like i was putting the cart before the horse on some things so I made some decisions to keep this moving forward. from day one on this build i wanted to keep the 6 cylinder that i had built and have less then 1 mile on. i got side tracked by the LS and started funneling money towards it. I have a ton of parts for the LS but still a ways off. i made the move back to my original plan of the 6 cylinder first then the LS. that way i can still be out driving it and playing ......................also make me hungry for the LS even more. so i sent some parts back that i had ordered and bought the front Shockwaves. during my "Down time" i came across a rebuild T5 online for sale. i messaged the guy and come to find out it was an ex employee. He just wanted off of it so i bought it for a whopping $80.00 and delivered to me house :)

Ok so the weather broke a bit and life slowed down long enough for me to install the Ridetech Shockwaves in the front of the truck on Super bowl Sunday. Took longer to get the old "strut" out then it did to install the Shockwaves. first impression when I opened the box was that they are just badass !! I knew on the front side that I would need to cut the sway bar end link stud off to gain clearance on the bag so I took care of that prior to install, quick cut off wheel job and done no biggie. As the install progressed i found that i really didn't care for the all aluminum spacer's, especially where the bolt made contact when I torque it I could actually see material come off of it. The other thing that was disheartening was the top plate was just plain steel. with its location it will rust badly being exposed to elements and basiclly in a cup on top of the aluminum cradle . I sent mine out to get powder coated. the other thing i wish i had paid attention to was that same top plate does not have drain holes in them. with it bolting directly to where the factory strut was it creates a cup for dirt, Water and debris to collect. If I had noticed this prior to powder coating i would have simply drilled a hole then coated.
Once the bag's where installed I couldn't wait to see how it sat. I threw together some airlines and a ball valve. added some air, jacked it back up, removed the jack stands and let her down.
This is what we got

now at this point i was like a kid at Christmas. i added air........let the air out....added air .......called the family out to check out how it looked
Then I found that the sway bar end link hits the bag so hard when all the way down that it actually pushed the deflated bag in at least 3/8 on an inch

trimming the nut would fix it but i worry about weakening the thread itself and having future issues.
with this disappointment I went back in the house wondering why i had spent almost $1000.00 for these and why I didn't just build my own. the real down fall to all of this is i read up on multipal builds, watched videos on install's and never saw this. i went back and looked at the ones i had saved and looked specifically at the sway bar end links and every single one of them hit....not one person said a word about it.
I do have a couple idea's rolling around in my skull full of mush on how I might cure this issue...but im going to stew on it for a bit and go to the rear of the truck and finish that first
I do have to say i love the look and i'm OK with the ride height

I had to make a crazy shock mount for the rear. since the truck is so low and with teh IRS in high to obtain this, attaching a shock to the frame was almost impossible. It would have had to be a very short shock. I bolted up the shock to the lower control arm and set the shock at close to half its travel. I grabbed some thin cardboard and started cutting. i came up with a design and took it to my engineer to make sure i wasn't on crack and that it would survive. he then drew it up in Autocad and i e-mailed it off to a friend to cut out on his CNC plasma table

once i get the motor mounts in i'll be cutting and bracing most of the engine mount side of the mount so it's not so bulky
i started on the subframe side of the mount. i dug thru all my "fab" parts and found some poly bushings i had bought years ago for my tube chassis crawler. along with some tabs i had cut out for them. so the plan is weld the tabs to the new mount on the engine side, bolt the poly bushing in and i also had some left over 1.750 .120 wall cromo tubing from my chassis that i'll weld between the bushing and the subframe*

Now that the truck is on Bags I needed to make some sort of mount for the compressor and control module. They’re its much in the way of companies offering these for trucks. Most are geared to cars and mounting everything in the trunk, trucks apparently just throw it in the bed…….NOT THIS KID. I want the compressor and module under the cab, tank can be behind the seat. I laid under the truck for what seemed like hours Imagineering the brackets and what all might be in the way. Fuel line, electrical, now air lines, brake lines…..blah blah blah I finally came up with a plan. Grabbed some cardboard and started making paper dolls to mock up what I wanted..so here it is from me skull full of mush to cardboard to autocad to steel
Compressor mount

A couple weekends ago the chassis and cab got a divorce, my only real goal in this was to finish boxing the frame but like usual things got out of control…..lol
It was a family effort to get the cab off….I have learned a bit now and will do it much differently in the future. I had already made patterns and cut out the steel to finish boxing the frame, I fit them too so it was time.

My buddy that scored me the bed called and said the cab was heading off to the crusher and that I should come take a look at it to see if I needed anything. I went and it was absolutely rust free. I was eyeing the center floor support and a couple other small parts. I have been helping him out lately so he bought it for me as a thank you which was very cool. I ran over and grabbed it the next morning.

I had already bought both the cab corner’s. because I knew the passenger side had an issue but didn’t really want to dig into it just yet. Since the cab was off…..why not get after it. once I dug in I found that someone had pop riveted a piece of thin sheet metal in, added some fiberglass, news paper and then packed it full of filler…pretty ugly

Weekend was filled with yard work and honey do’s so I dint get much work in on the Bump.
When I cut out the cab corner and test fit it I wasn’t very happy with fitment. I stopped and waited because I didn’t want to rush it and screw it up. I went out and stared at it a couple time over the past week and knew I had an angle off but couldn’t quit figure it out. Sunday I finally had a small amount of time to commit to it. I cut the tack welds I had on it and started over. I found that the aftermarket cab corner is a pile of crap. Not even close to stock angles. I had to cut the flange and do a small amount of bending by hand. Once that was done I found that the factory door sill flange was off too. Did a small amount of grinding and it fit perfectly. Tacked it back in and closed the door to see how she looked and was over all very happy. Finished welding it in and hit it with a flap disc quickly and I’m done for the time being

I also took the time to clean up the center floor support out of the donor truck to get it ready. didn’t get pics but the plan there is to POR-15 the inside while it’s off so that it wont rust in the future. I’m getting closer and closer to driving this thing
