Hey all,
Despite searching, I'm having a hard time finding an answer.
I have a Chevy 350 with a BW Super T-10 four speed right now. I'm looking to get a 455 engine for my Pontiac. I know those came with different bell housings and will need an adapter like this one (http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/60172/10002/-1)-- are there any other considerations? Fuel, clutch, cooling, etc? Driveshaft length may be different, can't tell for sure on that. I know the Super T-10 isn't rated for the 400-500 torque a 455 will put out so I'll likely baby it and shift softly until I can get a T56 or TKO600.
Thanks a ton!

No adapter necessary. Just use a Pontiac bellhousing. Driveshaft will be fine since you're not going to change the transmission location. Clutch should work also depending on the flywheel you choose.

In 1975, Pontiac put the ST-10 behind a 455 in the Trans Am, so your transmission will hold up pretty well. I wouldn't drag launch it on slicks, though, may find out just how much it can take then.

Many of the Chevy ST-10s a a higher numerical first gear than the Pontiac transmissions. Almost every stick tranny the higher numericaln gear the lower the torque rating of the trans.

If you have 70s Super T10, make sure you do research on specs, there are 4 torque ratings. OR get it freshened up with cryogenically treated new parts. As long as you can have some driveline slip it can live a long life.
IE build a huge bottom end then used large slicks and drag suspension will shorten the life of 1/2.
BUT T10s are super stout and can take years of street abuse.
I know that my friend ,local drag racer used a intermittent kill to speed shift over tapping clutch, much like high horsepower snowmobiles. A momentary "lift" on the gas allows the ST10 to shift smoothly from gear to gear . the trick is to not "crash" gears upon change and a properly adjusted shifter in good shape make the difference.
I know of several top drag racers who simply lift gas for fraction of second to create torque lag enough to allow safe shifting. Also many truckers can use clutch only to take off and in specific high load areas, otherwise they never touch clutch.
But as stated, a proper Pontiac bellhousing and appropriate clutch fork or hydraulic TO bearing and good clutch and your golden.
Also remember you dont need and should NEVER HIGH RPM stock Arma-Cast Pontiac rods. Those are AT BEST 5000 RPM redline hand grenade handles.
Also a Pontiac should be built for low/midrange torque. This is where a Poncho shines on street.
My best friend who is a machinist bought NEW 64 Tempest 326 4 spd with 3.something street gears and could take off in 4th gear with his Muncie 4 speed! And he bang shifted those drag racing casue thats what they had.
Good luck
