View Full Version : Optima Price Increase???

Finally refereed enough soccer games to buy my battery and CTEK charger, but it seems Optima batteries have had a significant price increase in the last couple of weeks. I recall being around $180ish and now over $240 both at Summit and even Amazon.

Been steadily increasing for awhile. I remember working at Autozone around 2005 in my college days, and a 34/78 red top was about $130, a few bucks more for a yellow top. They're astronomical now, which is opposite of what you'd think with going to Mexico. That's why I'll be trying Odyssey batteries going forward, at least there is a benefit with them being a dry cell and more compact.

I have been hearing for years now how unhappy guys are with Optima Batts. When they first came out years ago, you couldn't buy a better batt. Now it seems like they are one of the last choices for those in the know.

I would look at other brands, especially if they are over $200 now!

Problem is I already bought, drilled the holes and mounted the Optima battery hold down. I'll have to think about it for awhile, but sure as heck, the price might go up again...

Visit local metal supply and find some small, cheap scraps. Modify as necessary for smaller, much lighter, more dependable, cheaper battery.

At Pep Boys right now 30% off Optima with code 'mmj30'. The battery is $166 before core and taxes.

UPDATED: Disregard my last statement, Pep Boys has free shipping...looks like I found a battery cheaper that it was before the recent price increase. Many thanks for the Pep Boys tip.


Unfortunately, the closest Pep Boys is 3 hours away from me..
