My Dad & Mom ordered this very car new in 1963 and drag raced it around Oregon. I came home from the hospital in the car when I was born. Shortly after, grocery bills due the car was sold and then found 30 some years later under a tree a little worse for the wear. We recently tore the car apart again after the first hot rodding modifications (The Hi Pro Long Gone Ford Guys) and started over with a Morrison MaxG Chassis with some major help from Vanderbeck Race Cars. This is how our family does Heirlooms!

Will keep the pictures coming. We actually tore the car apart last February and have been rebuilding since March. Long process, but I think it is going to be very cool when done. The big choices are now, like wheels and colors. Thinking of Schott SL65 wheels and staying with Red. Maybe a bit brighter like Viper Red. I like neutral colors but I think you have to go a bit more wild on big cars.

Wheels are so expensive now that I would paint up cardboard ones and stare at the car for a while before purchasing. I had a 64 2dr hardtop that was a k car back in 1969. I never liked the way they set. They were too low in the rear or too high with air shocks or shackles. All the modern components fix that. :) You've got a good start. Looks like a solid body and great parts.

I like those wheels, but I'm also kind of old school & think wheels should be shiny.....
Question - when you fabbed your floor pans did you build any sort of sub-rails or did you weld the pans straight to the Morrison frame?

We used 1/2" x 1" tube steel 12" O.C. more or less across the frame rails to stiffen the floor. We set it up so the body with the floor and tubing will unbolt and the body will come off the frame.

If you haven't, you might take the cover off the plenum on the under side of the intake and looks for machining chips and debris. This has been found more than once in that style of intake no matter who made it. Looking good. :)
That's gonna be way nicer than the one I had in 1969!

Thanks Buddy, We did check the plenum before we stuck it in the car last year and ran it for one summer, before the big project. Hopefully we will get the tuning squared around this time. They want to run fat. We bought the upgraded controller so we have more tuning flexibility.

Got rid of old speaker / defrost grill and added a couple of cup holders:razz: The old stock console took tons of work to make correct. Car is coming apart for paint this weekend also down to last hood in trying to get the " right look" scoop. Finger crossed on this one!!!!
wfo guy
12-22-2017, 03:21 PM
What look are you going for with the scoop? I'm sure you know the only common scoop was the Thunderbolt from 64 but you're not building a drag car. How much taller does it need to be or is it just for aesthetics?
jschmidt97306
12-23-2017, 08:37 AM
Need 2 inches on the high side to clear the stacks. Not a fan of the upside down frying pan Thunderbolt scoop. The big problem is starting with a hood that has a minor raised cowl already. Everything you put on top of that looks like an afterthought.

Great car. Very well done. If I may suggest is to upgrade those breathers on the EFI stack to real air filters. Those are for allowing air to flow out like a valve cover breather. Plus they are restricting the power considerably. You need something taller with more surface area to match the CFM rating on those cylinder heads. I want to see a burnout! Keep up the great work.

This was the car that my wife and I (Jeffs mom and dad) ordered from the factory and we brought him home from the hospital in. I had to spend her savings for the down payment but what the heck. We race it in d stock class ate up a few chevys. Lots of street racing in those days. today we are just as much of a gear head as we were then. Jeff didn't stand much of a chance when it came to cars. When he had his drag car it was hard beat him. I'm happy to say I still torture myself with new car projects. We are very proud of Jeff and his 64 fairlane, proud of him in everything he has become.
