I was wondering what the pros and accomplished amateurs on this site think of this stuff. I see it in autozone, home depot...walmart? I think it cant be good, right? But then again, they invented it and we all use the term bondo instead of polyester filler. Just curious what the concensus is on this stuff.

There are much better products. I have been using Rage Ultra with good results. Sands easily.

Bondo is garbage. The Rage is top notch, I personally like the 3M Premium Plus. Check Amazon, they'll have both.

Ironically... avoid "Bondo" brand. Rage is good stuff, but at least around here it's priced stupid high, like $70 a gallon. I've been using 3M platinum with good success, and under $50 a gallon.

Not terrible. My local paint supply house has a "happy hour" that offers 20% off, so it gets it close. But it still hurts paying either of those prices on something I remember buying for $20-30 10+ years ago!

Homestore bondo is really great stuff;;;;;;;;;;;; if you want to patch a section of wood before latex paint.
Last I tried I think it was dynatron gold in a pinch, it still really sucked.
Best lower cost I've recently used is evercoat z-grip, which isn't a bad choice for a starter filler over some rougher work where you need a little more thickness than a professional may like to admit to. Quality is fine, just takes a little more skill to work.
Haven't tried out yet but the local finishmaster chain sells mostly their smart brand fillers these days. Their smart panel adhesive seems as good as the big name 3-m 8115 at a lesser price.

I have zero experience using "bondo" brand. Even with being a body tech for 15+ years. I really like Evercoat's Quantum 1. Don't remember retail price for a full gallon. Some may not like it as much because it uses a different hardener ratio than other fillers. But I really like it and it sands great.
Ironic thing about "Bondo"......3M bought out the Bondo brand a few years ago. I don't know if they changed anything with the formula or not, but they own it.
