Hello,

I have a 1976 Trans Am that I'm building up for the second go-round. It was previously a consistent low 12 second 1320 car; now being built up for road and track duty.

At the moment I have it completely gutted minus the stock front sub frame. The factory motor, trans., complete interior, all sheet metal, doors, gas tank, rear axle etc. have been removed. Before the car gets put on the rotisserie I'm mounting up the complete Detroit Speed front sub frame along with their weld-in sub frame connectors (from Detroit Speed) however I have a question.

Upon lurking around, I've observed that most project 2nd gens that were mounted on a rotisserie had been temporarily structurally-reinforced with what look like removable lateral supports bolted to the stock door hinge mounts. In addition to this bracing, they had reinforcement connecting the interior lining of the b-pillar to the front floor area. Now, the cars I looked at did not have a roll cage of any sort nor did they have any sub frame connectors that I will have when mine gets mounted up.

However...with that being said...even with my sub frame connectors and 8 point cage; I still don't have any side to side reinforcement (running around the a-pillar area) that some of the cars I've seen had (i.e. the bracing running from door hinge mount area).

Now, my car is going on the rotisserie for about 5 days in total. Just long enough to get blasted and epoxy primer'd.

Do I also need to craft up some bracing around my A-pillar area to prevent damage or will the 8 point cage and frame connectors suffice?

Thank you,
Andrew

The bracing you've seen used in some 2nd gens may be due to those cars having T tops.

Hey John,

Long time to talk. Would have kept on posting on 78ta but I've been pretty much just waiting around on getting the car to the shop. I'll post over there as soon as I make some more progress.

Talk to you soon. Thanks for the info. I think you're right about the T-Tops now that you mention it.
