in need of a new engine for my 69 camaro project. not sure witch direction to go. thinking about a 383, but not sure. money is an issue as i will need a tranny to go with it. any one have a engine/tranny combo they like. thanks in advance. i have a 12 bolt posi, with 3.73's.
You can get a 350 and upgrade it bit by bit as you get cash... But carb engines suck on gas, I don't care what anyone says.

I recommend the GMPP zz383. I have one in my '64 chevelle and it plain rips. I hope to get the car up to LACR in the next week or so.
The engine is very civil around town, but when you get on the gas it simply keeps pulling.
So far I have been getting around 14-16 mpg 3.08 gear and no overdrive. I am running Dougs tri-y headers and a Holley Street Avenger 770.

I just finished building my 383 for my 69 camaro. Actually it is a 388. 350 block, bored .060, 3.75 crank. I have the same 373 differential, 12 bolt eaton posi, but mine is a four speed. Right now M 21 but am purchasing TKO 500 or 600 in the future. Went with X treme energy comp cam. I had the whole thing balanced and blu printed and decked. For the money this is the best way to go, you wont be dissapointed. I have around 400 RWHP with a lot of room to go. Also you can add a D1sc PROCHARGER With Intercooler and easily be around 700HP. My compression is 10:1 and I used Flat Head Pistons so Detonation wont be an issue when I add the Procharger. This whole thing only cost about $1700 in parts and machine work. I built mine myself so u have to do alittle grinding in some areas. I am going with AFR aluminum heads here in a couple weeks. This is the best way to go for the best torque, HP, and throttle response. NOT to mention the wait you save from not doing a big block. Hope this helps Paul
