View Full Version : Proportioning valve for manual brake setup

I'm planning my Kore3 brake package for my '66 Tempest A-body.
I've learned to love my manual brakes and will be staying with that.

Can someone recommend a valve setup that's reasonably good for performance tuning? It can be a handful with the drums locking up the rears.
Is there one that can quickly adjust to act as a line lock? ... for science. ;)

Any other brake considerations that would help maximize brake feel and fun? Are stock pedals fine?

(I've got a UMI suspension kit, lowered 1". I'll be getting new wheels and rubber.)

Get the MC size right...15/16" or 7/8" should do the trick (I used 7/8" Dodge MC on my GTO). Use any of the readily adjustable prop valves to dial in the lock up...Make sure the MC rod is in the upper hole on the pedal.

For doing "science" I suggest installing a line lock in the front brake line.

Are old master cylinders still good if they're the right size or should I replace them regardless? Brakes work as well now as 1966 :/

How should I go about researching the whole setup? YouTube is unusually silent in brakes and manual line locks.

You only have one master cylinder...so I don't know what you mean about "cylinders." I would replace it with a new one. I used this one for a while with C6 Z06 front brakes and rear disk brakes (you will have to modify the MC rod to work with your pedal):

As for the line lock, it is an electronic solenoid that you activate with a button. Press the brakes hard, press the button, release brakes pedal. The solenoid will keep pressure in the front brakes, but release pressure to the rear. This way you can do easy burn outs...
