Haven't posted much on this forum over the last few years since joining, but wouldn't have been able to get as far as I have without the help from everyone's own builds/posts here.

Finally getting into the last leg of my build and thought I should share my own journey as well to try and help return the favor.
I'm going to go back in and update my posts with details/info as I organize it, so bare with me for a few days.

Where to start the story. Ill probably come back in and update this a bit more... but long story short, have been dreaming of building a pro-touring camaro for a number of years. But wanted to find a good car to start with that I wouldn't feel guilty about hacking apart.

The goal was to do all the work myself and use it as a learning experience. It's definitely been that.


Here she is when I picked her up:


1967 Camaro - 327 V8 with an automatic.
Decent body, 5' paint job and pissing fluids out of just about every place she could.


Hindsight if i knew how far into the project I was going to go, I probably would have gone for something a bit more WIP... but i got a decent deal on the car as is. Visually the car was in good shape for a daily driver... mechanically it was a disaster. Motor + Trans were shot. Rear end was a mess, and after tearing her down we discovered she was missing half her bolts and the brake pads in the drums.

Lucky for me... and unbeknown to the seller none of that stuff was staying in.
So was able to negotiate a pretty decent deal on her.

TEMP MOTOR PULL / CLEANUP

Still debating on my final motor build, plan is for a twin turbo build once i get the car all wrapped up and dialed in. But for the time being needed an LS1.
Picked up a 2000 Camaro with a solid motor for dirt cheap. Just needs a bit of a refresher and clean up.

I also was backlogging my posts in my project thread. My build started when I was 15 in 1999 and started PT-type mods in 2006 and learned of this site in 2015. Feb of this year was when I started my proj thread and have trying to detail all the relevant events. Good idea on the placeholder posts, I should have added some! As it turns out, Just yesterday my thread finally became current--and it has 90% of the details I wanted, so I'm pretty relieved right now. Lucky for you and I was that we got started after the photobucket debacle.

Looking good so far. I think you started with the perfect vehicle. A very nice shell with weathered mechanicals. Looks like you ponied up for the good stuff too. Looking forward to this one.

Got access to a 3D scanner... figured may as well Scan the build in while i still had her taken apart- Should help a bit later down the road.

Unfortunately don't get to get down to my shop too often with my day job- so the scan data gives me a super accurate virtual model of the car i can use to experiment with and model on when i can't get down there. Gives me a jumpstart when it comes to ordering components/material and helps me go into fabricating with a gameplan already in my head.

Right now havent done much with it other than plan out some underdash paneling to route wiring/fuse blocks and my trunk panels.... but will come in super handy when i get into phase 2 of the build.

After routing the wire, was a bit concerned about potential rubbing/wear... and i like to make things pretty, so put a bit of nylon loom on the wire.

After much debate- and many reccos across the forum, i picked up a Seals-it grommet to route the main harness through the firewall. Found a nice recessed area directly behind the the intake manifold and with some rivot nuts makes it super easy to remove and pass the ECU cables through.

Underdash Dynamat + Wiring


So the car has a nice heavy coat of lizard skin and ceramic coat over everything...but i figured a nice layer of dynamat couldn't hurt. After much debate decided to go with the Dynamat Superlite.

Figured the speaker pods could use a bit of insulation as well... i want no rattles in this car.

ECU Mounting

After much debate, decided to mount the ECU behind the glove box under the dash. Going to be making a glovebox panel to mount my fuse block and OBDII port in the glovebox area, so had the space to spare. After some experimenting... noticed with a bit of trimming the factory bracket fit the dash curve perfectly. Cue my new favorite hardware Rivot Nuts and had a perfect ECU bracket.

Some additional shots in case anyone wants a better look - you'll also notice some studs i installed for the Vintage Air unit. Was getting too much movement with the Sheetmetal screws they provideded...this also allows me to remove and install the unit much easier while making sure she doesn't shift around at all when i get on it.

Thanks - if your talking about the engine harness its a harness from http://www.wiringspecialties.com/ - For all wiring under dash and on the power cable it's actually just some PET Braided sleeving i picked up from amazon - http://a.co/8VrHnkf - Had a bunch of it laying around from when i did my entertainment system in my apartment- have split loom and expandable sleeving in a variety of sizes-

Center Console + AC Controls + Guages + Steering Column

Once i got the main wiring / Vintage Air wiring / ECU all figured out- moved onto the center Console. I'm going to be running Speedhut gauges in my main dash, but wanted to create a gauge cluster in my center console to monitor Oil, Water, Fuel.

Due to the slope of the dash- and partially for aesthetics - decided to create a recessed area where the AC controls used to be. I'll be replacing the Radio slot with my Vintage Air controls.

One last fun update - Been waiting forever on my iditit pro-lite steering column. Finally it arrived just in time for Christmas and was worth the wait. Absolutely amazing quality and weighs under 6lbs. Alas, forgot to order the adapter for the momo.. but shes in at least.

Heck yeah man! You've gone off on this thing! I don't envy the process again, but you'll love it when you're done. I'm finally driving mine now after 11 years of screwing with it.
