So got my 04 Grand Prix, $300 ,came with new car quest CV axle, new felpro pan gasket. So I still have to replace or repair the engine. I keep getting don't rebuild, it won't live, just throw in a used engine. They can make 500 HP, blah blah.
YET they will chip pistons, spin rods, etc.
So when I go looking for performance parts, turns out rods and pistons wind up being huge dollars like $800-$900 for pistons, $500-$600 for rods unless OEM and those are still $55 each.
So after some searching and math I found decent pistons, turns out stroker Ford 2300 pistons work and also found out they will work with 4.3l rods.
So have icon and wiseco pistons that are cheaper, give bigger wrist pin, definite price difference to other brands.
Only issue is only have 10 and 20 over pistons, rings are even reasonable.
But my setup , funded by father son team I met who are looking for cheaper parts, not really up on wbody forums or info.
I am old school, still like forged pistons, blue printing , etc. Many say series 2/3 can't be rebuilt. Won't live after reassembly.
I have car, tuner, customers wanting to build and NOT spend huge cash/on parts.
AND have solid short block.
My friend has machine shop, so bore/hone/square is easy.
So I will post up a project build thread on my car intermixed with engine builds and dyno time I hope.
I love coming at these wbody cars from regular hot rodders angle.
See the original wbody owners bought slightly new cars to mod, we buy 20,30,40,50+ yr old cars to modify.
And to think there won't be thousands of these cars around for kids to buy out of fence rows and back lots as they are now indoctrinated to mod NEW cars before old ones.
My 04 will be around a while if at all possible, and hopefully I can/make it drive, run/and handle better without destroying it too bad.
