Does anyone have any first hand experience with these 2" gear drive systems?
I had never even heard of them and there is no information on their website regarding their LS units, however a friend of mine has one and has decided not to use it.
It might suit the old school retro look I will be trying to achieve with my LS3.
I know it isn't the look most are going for but I figured if they worked well and controlled slippage they would be used more.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Wally Logans 1968 Mean Green Camaro built at Barry's Speed shop has this set up on it. At least it did when I saw it run the track at the Del Mar Goodguys a couple of years ago. Looked awesome and seemed to work well. I liked it so much I picked up a used set up but my car but it's not operable yet.

nice, I looked it up, good to see one being punished and standing up against it. I'm still on the fence about purchasing the set, but luckily the one available to me is the black version(it helps). Have you installed yours yet?

James,

I remember reading at some point that Gilmer belt drive systems are totally unforgiving. There is zero slip and that can cause problems. If these were such a good idea, race cars would use them, but they don't. Just food for thought.

Thanks Andrew, That's exactly where my reservations lie, I found an old thread deep in the forum where several people were using them many years ago, but it seems they have lost popularity since

Before the I got mine I read all about the tension issues, alternator challenges, extra weight on the bearings, etc but decided to try it anyway. I have not run them yet because my car is still being put together. If you get a good deal on a used set like I did, why not try it? They still run them on top fuel drag cars, so they should handle 500-600 hp right? That's what's fun about this hobby, try it, if it doesn't work then go with something else but if they do work, man they sure do look cool and different from what everyone else is running.....

Did you pull the trigger on these?

Did you pull the trigger on these?

I must have missed this, I haven't exactly pulled the trigger on this, but my friend still had his setup so he has given it to me to see if I like it, the quality is good and it's mostly black which is ideal for my engine bay, I'm going to instal it and go from there. I'm aiming for 500 RWHP so hoping that doesn't see any problems.

So we can run water pumps and engine timing for 100k miles on timing belts but not an alternator or PS pump or ac compressor? PURE BS. I forget the brand but a piece of med/heavy equipment that ran "timing belt" type drive belt because it held up better in wet/grimy areas.
The biggest issue is proper pulley hardness. But then I have seen even March pulleys with hardness issues.
Rounded tooth drive belt HAVE been used in racing. As far as I have installed all dry sump oil pumps had a toothed belt and run thousands of miles with zero issues.
So ME LIKEY! Just cant afford it and it would eliminate needing spring loaded tensioner.

Its not an LS style, but I have ran his 1" cog belt setup on my BBC 496CI 675HP Chevelle for about 7 years now and about 20k miles while at the drag strip, running hard on the streets and local autocrossing. I have never had an issue and its always the talk when im at a show...it looks mean!

No sir, the engine will be at the shop a couple more weeks, however I'll be overseas until late January. I plan to paint the engine immediately after, then once that's done this will be the first piece to go on. nonetheless, I can't imagine seeing(hearing?) my engine run for almost a year from now.

Also, to add to the positive experience, I checked out many Australian forums where similar cog drive systems are popular, people are making twice my power goals and having no problems whatsoever
