Well...it's official, Camaro is a car that now HAS to happen.IMHO, there's no way 3 manufacturers can all be profitable in the small pony-car market, especially if all 3 are "retro" styled.
I think the only way they can build a new camaro and sell it, they will need a bold modern design with some hints of it's heritage - not a redesigned '69 camaro.

I will take one of those with the new 6.1/425 hp. TODAY
Then again, I may need to wait and see what the GM suprise is. Decisions, decisions.........

There's room an ANY market for 3 competitors. We do it with trucks, cars, SUV's, Crossovers where there are a heck of a lot more than even 3 competing. The "pony car' market has essentially only one member right now....that's Ford.

It looks good and I'm glad to see 2 door coupes coming back on the market. I like the car in the spy shots but it looks like the waist height could be a little lower and the grille a little taller, it looks like it's a little short and it's way up at the top of the front. Makes the front of the car look a little unsightly, but it's still a good looking car overall.
Funny how they painted it orange...

That looks cool! Too bad nobody has been able to crack the HEMI custom tuning issues yet. Good engine, but no real tuning available yet.

When I bought my 1st new car ever in 2004, there wasn't anything that I really wanted or was attracted to. So I looked at what I needed to make it to the day when they probably won't let us drive a car on gasoline. After looking at all of the needs that I have for a vehicle for years to come ,I didn't get a truck,a 2 seater was out of the question, low fuel mileage was something the government would kill me on later and styling just really wasn't there.
So what did I buy: a Pontiac Vibe. Why you might ask? Because it had excitement when I drove it. It wasn't a true GM car, it is a Toyota Matrix in disguise. It fit all of my needs for the future and it handled well along with being able to carry more stuff in it than some trucks without it being a hassle. The ability to carry cargo safely and tie it down is incredible. You can carry a crate motor in it if you have to. 10' 2x4's fit in it. You can carry ladders on it. It fits people, real people not just drawfs. A freind that is very tall thinks it is great for room. I wasn't all that thrilled about the car when I bought it because it wasn't what I really wanted. The C5 Corvette is what I really wanted and the GTO was really talking to me but the price of either one was just more than I could realistically spend.
The big question is would I have bought a new Camaro? Not if it was like the 4th gen, it sucked in my opinion for styling and comfort. Would I have bought it if it was retro? Depends on the retro choices? 1st gen, 2nd gen,3rd gen ? I liked all of them When the 3rd gen came out I thought it was so new but still had hints of the earlier cars on them that made them a Camaro.
The new Camaro will have to be very new and still have hints of the heritage somewhere in it to make it a seller. I just know that if they use 1 idea from the 4th gen I will puke. They need to look at a hot woman that they desire instead of their mother they love to get the ideas from. Inspiraration for it will need to come from a racetrack and functionality that is proven to work and the rest will follow.
Maybe if the designers quit trying to please the masses and just built a car that pleases them they might put the gut feeling back into the Camaro that was there when it started. I didn't even like the 67 Camaro when it came out, it grew on me over the years. I was a Mustang person back then and it just was too new for me to appreciate the look that it has but the designers knew and didn't mind being bold and stylish. A lot of people bought them that could see it. Most of them were older just like me,now.
I hope the new Camaro is something I want and that I will be able to afford it when it comes out. If all of these companies in our country keep going to China I doubt I will be able to afford it along with a bunch of other people who are losing good paying jobs to greedy corporate disloyal companies that don't realize it takes american people with jobs to buy the products they make, not the people in china.
I wish GM all of the luck in the world if they still have people who work for them in the one I live in. They need to think Build American-Buy American. I know I know, the Vibe is a Toyota but Toyota is more loyal to us than GM except for the realationship with Pontiac which gave me some excitement to still buy a GM car instead of a foriegn one, well sort of. At least Toyota joined us and didn't have the attitude that America isn't a good place to be and build cars!!!

That challanger is sick. If the Camaro is not up to par I will get a challenger instead and do it up like the Trans-Am car.

If this IS the new Challenger then Mopar got it right. But man it looks nearly identical to the original.

GM should keep moving the Vette towards maximum performance, and with the higher price tag more people will be drawn to the new Camaro when it comes out. If they are too close together price-wise (within 15k of each other), many will just work towards the Vette. At least that is the justification the 5 C5 Vette owners I know at work ALL used when deciding between the 2).
The Challenger looks good, way better than that nasty looking Charger Dodge came out with, what a waste. Ford did a great job on the new Mustang, but the propensity they have always shown towards insufficient rubber makes them look a little funky until someone puts some meats on them. Let's hope any new Camaro takes the older and proven successful lines/styles, and utilizes some of the Vette suspension/brake parts where practical.

I wonder how much the final weight is going to be? Dodge recently has seamed to pack on the pounds with all if it's cars. I think the new charger is pushing 3 tons now. If they can keep it at or below 3,500 Lbs. they could have one heck of a car on their hands. 4,000+ = Turd that's going to be hard on brakes and parts IMO.

I dunno, After seeing the chargers running all over sacramento with 20s and lowered, they are starting to grow on me. I like them. It's a bummer that those cars are called "charger" but the design is ok by me.

Wow, it's almost a carbon copy of the '70. With 425hp and a 6speed, it should really move, too. I hope they build it.

I think the belt line and sills are a little too high, but I applaud them for answering the call for a 2-door.
Is it January yet?

That's not a bad thing is it? The prices on early Challengers & Cudas are shooting on up there because of their desirability.
Cool looking car if they keep the same lines & not let the bean counters put giant ugly ass impact bumpers or something similar (like 4 doors) on them.

Not a bad thing at all, but it does look like they just took a '70 model and did a little work to the front and back. Even the quarter window looks the same.

sweet!, I was worried they'd screw it up. not sure why "retro" is a dirty word to manufacturers. They have to make a Chrysler? cuda too.
