View Full Version : How Many 64-72 El Camino/Chevelle Owners Here?

What's everyone own or building these days? I'm working on a 1970 El Camino restomod that I'll be gradually adding protourer bits, as the budget will allow. Just bought a new set of Nitto NT555 g2's in 255/35/18 and 305/30/20 sizing and hope to have them on the car, next week. Front suspension is pretty solid but stock so better parts are next on the agenda. (tubular a-arms,taller ball joints, shocks, and springs)

Sounds like a killer 70 SS you're building.

I have a 64 El Camino that will probably be the next project after the Corvair. I have a 85 Corvette to donate its everything for the 64 shell.
I am missing a hood. If anyone in the sacramento or sfbay area has one for a 64, I'd like to borrow it to make a fiberglass mold from it,
in exchange I can make you a fiberglass hood, or if your steel one needs a little work I will make it perfect and paint it before making the mold,
so you will get it back perfect and painted (at least the top ;).

I own this car for 25 years now. I am 45. I improved the engine first with basic mods and little by little turned my mind to a Twin turbo engine. this was 20 years ago. At that time there were almost no turbo cars here nore in the US. I have been working in Farmer John CA in 1995 for 1 year (this is definitely the best part of my life.
So after increasing the power I faced some traction problems. The cure was an straightforward AWD! I made this modification 2 years ago.
Now the engine is a DART Little M filled with forged crank, Diamond pistons, Vic Jr ported heads and a 255-262°@0.050" roller cam.
I made some custom exhaust manifolds that blow in 2 GT35R on ball bearings. Those turbos are fully maxed out. I also have a set of ID 2000 injectors. All this stull running on E85 thanks to an Aeromotive pump.
ECU : Electromotive TEC3R
Air is cooled thanks to a Bell A/A intercooler.
Then comes a multi discs Jakes converter (stall 3000 RPM) and a home built 4L80E with Jakes stage 5 parts (all shafts in 300M + Super drum).
Transfer case is an NP149 resplined for the 4L80 output shaft.
Front differential comes from a GMC Typhoon (diff + CV joints) 3.73/1
Rear end is now a DANA 60 , 40 Splines 3.73/1
To stop all this stuff I adapted a full M5 E61 V10 brake set. Front 374mm, rear 370mm.
I also installed QA1 dual adjustable with 650lbs front and 400lbs rear springs.
Rear has a 4 link, front has home suspension arms.
4 Apex Wheels 19x10" ET 25 with Kumho Le Sport 285/35/19
This is not an esay modification, but handling is incredible with street tires. Is way better than my Audi S6 !

Bought this '72 from the original owner over 30 years ago. Swapped spindles and brakes from a '78 Trans Am and steering box from a Jeep. I added stiffer springs all around but don't remember the rates. Still need to put the T/A front bar on it. I have a '70 nose for it. For some cheap/simple mods it really transformed the car(truck).

I like the stance. This gives me inspiration after a 10 year break from my 67 build.

Howdy y'all. I'm glad I found this thread!! Those are some beautiful cars!!
I'm in the process of changing my 72 over to a more pro touring style car. I'm in the middle of installing a Global West neg roll coilover system. I need to figure out some tire sizes now too. I bought some new rims for it also...19982019982118x8's for the front and 20x10's for the rear.

Well at least that surfaced a cool thread!
Checking in:
67’ Chevelle Malibu
LQ4-LSA / T56 Magnum
VaporWorx/Rick’s fueling with dual CTS-V pumps
ABC mini tubbed
Viking coil over conversion
Still a large hole to shovel money into… Trying to get it road worthy and work on the appearance as I go.
