Hey Guys.

71 Chevelle. I'm replacing my
steering column as it's a former column
shift.

I would like a column with no key and
convert my ignition to the dash.

Is this easy? Does someone know what
specific parts I need.
Is there a all in one kit?

help. In detail pls. So I can acquire the parts
for my mechanic. This is somthing out of my
comfort zone.

It is an easy conversion, but why do you want to do this? The key in the column is a better place. Better theft deterant, keeps the dash cleaner looking, doesn't scratch the he'll out of the dash, and that's just a few things that come to mind.
But if you must relocate, this is what needs to be done. You will need an ignition lock, you can pick up a cheap generic model or a better one would be a factory replacement for say a 67 chevelle. You will need to extend and relocate all the wires that went to your factory ignition switch at the lower portion of your column. You will also need to disable the steering lock so you can turn the wheel.
Good luck with the project, sorry I couldn't be of any help with pictures

I'd get a hold of a PKE(Passive Keyless Entry) w/ pushbutton start. For about a $100 you'll have keyless entry- controlled by either a standard button remote or a transponder- or both all selectable. Walk up to your car - doors unlock...walk way and they automatically lock -lights flash- and can have the horn honk.... Get in the car with the remote /transponder- put your foot on the brake or clutch- push the button - car starts. You can also just get the pushbutton start for about $60 w/o the keyless part. And trust me- a lot more theft deterrent than the old key...

Wanna clean up the car- get a any of a number of steering columns that don't have the ignition switch.

With the pushbutton start- the wiring is really straight forward- you'll just disconnect the ignition switch and wire up the module-

I modded my steering column- got rid of the key and put the controls of my intermittet/delay wipers-

I thought this sounded very familiar.

Why didn't you just bump your thread from 4 months ago?

Thanks, Rob

I went with this piece-

https://www.amazon.com/EASYGUARD-Passive-Keyless-Universal-Version/dp/B00IF1N314

And it you want a kit-

Painless has one-

It's really not that tough at all to convert-

I built my own - when I did an engine swap and went w/ fuel injection- even added a timed circuit so my lights and power windows would work for a few minutes after I turned off my car.

Here's a wire color for a 71 Corvette- probably similar to a Chevelle-

An ignition switch in these cars are really very simple- Power in and three switches-
one for the starter-
one's for the car when its running and starting
and one for acc and running
