I'm building a 71 C10 with a gen5 LT4 and am trying to find a place that build custom heat exchangers. I contacted Griffin for their LS conversion radiator. It looks like a nice piece for $300 bucks. I asked them to quote a heat exchanger and they want 900! I don't understand why such a jump in price for basically a radiator that is 1/3 the size. I realize you pay more for custom but I didn't expect that much. Any leads on a shop?

C & R Radiators make a lot of custom radiators and heat exchangers but I'm afraid their prices are going to be comparable to the quote you got from Griffin. Are you looking for the cooler to be in the radiator tank? Or a seperate unit? I have seen a lot of NASCAR radiators that have the built in oil cooler. Sometimes you can find them on flea Bay. Or check out some of the resale shops that specialize in used NASCAR parts. You would be surprised what's out there.
Do you have a build thread on this project? Id like to see more details.

Afco, CR and Ron Davis are going to quote. We will see if 900 is a bargain.
Still gathering parts and information so no build thread yet.

Why can you not use an off the shelf size? There is quite a range: http://www.setrabusa.com/products/oilcoolers/engine/index.html

AFCO is going to build a custom H/E for me that will fully utilize the space I have.
