Most here know me for my last build 69 Chevelle unibody, that was sold back in October this will be its replacement. Which I've been working on for the last few months, check Instagram and Facebook for more frequent updates but I'll get this up to date as I have time

Here it is when I bought it first time it was out of that garage since the early 80's

Some highlights to come are a full tube chassis with ls power and a 6 speed slammed to the ground geared more toward track days and autocross while maintaining a show quality finish that can be driven anywhere

Couple more from first getting started bracing the body and getting it off the stock chassis

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 08:30 PM
Figuring out the ride height before getting it mounted to the frame table. Going for 3" of ground clearance in the front with an 1" of rake

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 08:34 PM
I had this hood design in my head for a while and traded the hood that came on the car for a stock one to cut up, the plan is to have it resemble a 58 washboard good that I could duct all the air through the grille and radiator then out this vent

NWEBER540

Mounted up to the frame table and ready to be cut up

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 08:40 PM
About this time I realized the car was an original low hp fuelie car however it was missing everything and not worth saving so the chopping will continue

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 08:45 PM
Made some room and started figuring out the new front track width. Used my cad program to draw out the mid section of the chassis on the garage floor before bending it up

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 08:56 PM
Trimmed 5/8" out of the bumper recesses to tighten up the gaps complete custom bumpers will be made later and started designing the front spoiler

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 09:00 PM
Fiberglassed the spoiler in, molded it out of clay then glassed over the front side followed by removing the clay from the back side and adding 2 more layers to the backside after shaping the factory glass to blend into the spoiler

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 09:08 PM
Engine Trans seat mock up and fitment to get the backbone shape figured out, built a new steel rack to try and keep all the tubing organized

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 09:14 PM
Backbone and front chassis construction, lots of tig welding in there all built from 1 3/4" USA made dom tube

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 09:28 PM
Got the front suspension calculations in from Ron Sutton and started building all the front brackets

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 09:32 PM
Going to be mean looking

NWEBER540
04-08-2017, 09:35 PM
Custom rack in from sweet mfg, mounted in place and finished up the front chassis tubes

Cool Stuff. How are you going to get headers on that?

The exhaust is going to run on the outside of the frame between it and the rocker- trying to keep the heat out of the tunnel

Do you bend your own tubes or do the CAD work and farm it out?

the guys that made up the rear cradle I believe have a cnc bender, everything else on the chassis was bent up by me on my manual bender

Man, Nick, you are one fantastic fabricator! I had a '65 Corvette for 22 years, lost it through a divorce, and miss it everyday... I would have loved to do something like this with it.

Keep up the GREAT work!

Wow that is incredible work!

I'm curious though, how difficult would it be to add the C5/C6 A-arms to a stock frame? Would you be able to get the CAD drawings like you have and add them to a stock frame, as long as thing line up? I was wondering how difficult it would be to add mounts like that to my stock Camaro frame?

sure it could be added to a stock chassis but, if you were looking for something like that theres a lot of options available for chassis and clips ready to bolt in

It looked like one side of the tunnel next to the trans was taller. Is that correct? If so, why?

It'd be cool to get a "builder bio", Nick...something about how you got into this (I read about your first car purchase...I didn't have the presence of mind to save $15k then and I probably still don't now), how/where you learned/honed your skills, why you use certain things for your builds, some brief details about your equipment, etc. I read the Chevelle build but not every single post so maybe I missed a lot of this.

You know, because you have time to write things for my benefit rather than working on another badass car build.

Anyway, awesome builds all around - quite literally the stuff of dreams for guys like me. Thanks for documenting it all!

Put the main floors in, formed out of 1/4" plywood and fiberglassed in initially I planned to use steel or aluminum floors but changed my mind and decided to try something different and keep it all fiberglass since it's a corvette grabbed 5 gallons of resin and a bulk roll of chopped mat from a local supply house and went at it came out better than expected

Man I HATE messing with glass....

I like that your keeping in line with original since its a fiberglass car. But boy that's dedication, much rather work with metal any day lol. ITCH for days

Love the transitions at the floors! Did you router/round the top edge of the trans tunnel?

Does the wood become a permanent part of the floor now?

Yes tryed to have no shap edges so the glass would lay down and no want to keep peeling up, and yes the wood is staying in there I will fiberglass the underside as well after I take the body off the chassis

yes engine and trans have to come out together there was no way to make the trans come out without the engine and still have room for seats, this car is small and tight, realistically the technology now how often do you really change a clutch

NWEBER540
05-21-2017, 03:17 PM
Curious, did you screw wood buck to steel cage/frame?

there was some additional support underneath to hold everything straight until the glass work was done but nothing permanately attaching the wood or fiberglass to steel
